I was talking to a friend last night ... they commented that the thought TAY a nice place where beginners could post a fairly unexciting TR but still get nice uplifting comments about it.

It sounds so lame when you put it that way, but there is a really important thing here which is a receptive place for "beginners." Imagine if you will that you really want to ski the BC, maybe have taken an avy class or are planning to, don't know who to go with or where to go. Easy for me to imagine, it was me 3 years ago. It's pretty great that TAY helps a new person find people and trips, is encouraging, provides lots of trip ideas and safety info, and provide an environment where you can post without fear of flames. Receptive to new people is a good thing, and the civility is part of that, whether IYHO it is overdone.

I put "beginner" in quotes because I keep seeing a pattern that beginning BC skiers have a lot of experience in something related, whether it's lots of inbounds skiing, climbing, or other outdoor adventuring. With me, it was 25 years of caving before BC skiing. So, beginners in one sense, but often having lots of good cross-experience that anyone can learn from.

Good point and I agree, I was merely repeating an insult that Randy made that was deleted ( it all gets so confusing with these deletions)

From my knothole it was a simple statement of fact -- about an actual experience with my own daugther and how people's complaints reminded me of that experience.

If had want to insult you it would have been along the lines of "I fart in your general direction and call your keeping snow secrects request a silly thing.  Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries -- now go and boil your bottom, son of a silly person".

That is more like an insult.

I'm just a beginner myself.. you should see my skiing.
