Theres nothing wrong with rules and censorship as long as they are evenly applied.I watched what happened to you on TGR and agree that that thread was a disaster for all involved and frankly handled very badly by all those involved.
The rules on TAY have been applied unevenly by the moderators who have deleted picture threads too long but allowed their friends picture threads to remain. Moderation has been subjec to cronyism and personal preference for a point of view.
Moderation has not only occurred because of personal attacks but because somebody has a controversial, usually negative point of view that does not tie in with the as Leelau said, the boy scout , holding hands, kumbaya ethos that has been promoted on TAY. This moderation of viewpoint and overzealous sensitivity to tone , stifles discussion, content and bandwidth and deters some people from contributing.
Love also means Let Others Views Exist.
TAYers ( generalizing)display an amazing amount of hubris about their perceived goodness and at the same time shown no self realization when they trash others who don't think or act their way or hold the same values.
There are notable preachy hypocrites on TAY who have openly reported their disdain and disgust for other websites and then posted their content there.
I agree there needs to be rules and censorship on THIS site. One TGR is enough. But with the change in ownership, maybe this is an opportunity to examine the rules and the moderation and see if change is warranted.
Additionally, IMO the site reeks of fuddy duddiness and geezerdom and is not all that appealing to the majority of the younger generation( not all, I'm generalizing) and perhaps thats got to do with the video and picture rules. The place reeks of old school and put downs of the younger generations fashions, changing ski shapes and modes.
Now, I probably deserve a lot of the shit thats being thrown against me, but critiscm of TAY , it's moderators and general tone has never been very welcomed, check the record, I fact I find ironic considering the liberal tone TAYers think they have.
And yes Skykilo, I'm a whinny baby nancy boy because I complain.
And yes Ron I'm an habitual complainer and troublemaker.
And yes Andy I'm an idiot for sticking to my guns even when I get no support from the community.
And yes oldschooldropout I'm harshing your vibe.
Ban me or delete my threads, I'm going to continue to say what I think not what you think I should think.

God, this is weird and fun at the same time. I did think Z-bo a bit overwrought but whatever. I can handle that. Tempest in a teapot, anyone?
And since it is unmoderated - Scotsman, any relation to Groundskeeper Willie?
NO.

OK could be I haven't been here so much that I caught this
Moderation has not only occurred because of personal attacks
As it bloody should!!
but because somebody has a controversial, usually negative point of view that does not tie in with
My first point also applies here, I haven't noticed it due to lack of hours here..
the as Leelau said, the boy scout , holding hands, kumbaya ethos that has been promoted on TAY.
So this is far inferior to the homophobic, misogynistic, vile, trite, bullshit that has been promoted (on occasion mind you) on TGR?
This moderation of viewpoint and overzealous sensitivity to tone , stifles discussion, content and bandwidth and deters some people from contributing.
Perhaps it does, let em post on TGR then. Some of us like a bit of moderation in moderation.
Love also means Let Others Views Exist.
That's cool, and I would be lying through my ass if I said that I didn't enjoy seeing someone get ripped apart because they said something really stupid. I do not suffer fools gladly, however when those "others" views are hateful, based on ignorance or prejudice, or otherwise absolutely wrong - why can't they be censored?
TAYers ( generalizing)display an amazing amount of hubris about their perceived goodness and at the same time shown no self realization when they trash others who don't think or act their way or hold the same values.
I haven't encountered it to any alarming degree.
There are notable preachy hypocrites on TAY who have openly reported their disdain and disgust for other websites and then posted their content there.
I really dislike hypocrisy, so if this is true, these people are douches.
I agree there needs to be rules and censorship on THIS site. One TGR is enough.
Couldn't agree more. I'm glad there is TGR and I'm glad there is TAY.
Additionally, IMO the site reeks of fuddy duddiness and geezerdom and is not all that appealing to the majority of the younger generation( not all, I'm generalizing) and perhaps thats got to do with the video and picture rules. And possibly therein lies the basis for our disagreement. I started skiing in 1977, and my big seasons (for # of days at least) were 1988 - 97. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Scotsman you took up the sport more recently (like the last 8 years or so). Perhaps it's because my major skiing was from a more innocent time - and I'm not being kumbaya-ee here, that I'm not offended by the "fuddy duddiness" (nice word by the way... jesus, how old school). The ski area I lived and worked at was a little village of 150 or so like minds. It WAS utopian and "hand holdy". I view passionate skiers in the same mould as my ski family back at Tod - peace, love, skiing, partying, more love, sleep, skiing ad infinitum. And yes, I'm a nostalgic git.
I haven't seen the put downs of new school younger generations. Recently I saw a posting from a 16 year old wanting to get out into the BC with some one who "knows". There was at least a couple of replies and it sounds like the kid got hooked up with a bro who took him out - perfect, no? Changing ski shapes... well I for one was harping about fat skis in the early 90's suggesting that they were good for gorbies only, I chuckled happily while skiing 215 DH's in the bumps. But, I got smart, as will anyone else who tries new school skis. Why can't we be a bit stubborn in our old age
Now, I probably deserve a lot of the shit thats being thrown against me, but critiscm of TAY , it's moderators and general tone has never been very welcomed, check the record, I fact I find ironic considering the liberal tone TAYers think they have.
Well thought out criticism is helpful. In this case Scotsman, I would say that you've given people (TAYers, moderators and administrators) something to think about. Job well done. But as you've said yourself, we don't need another TGR.
And you SHOULD say what you think, just don't make it a vitriolic, hateful, foul-mouthed diatribe that makes no sense. I'm sure this will never be the case, sir.

Even Lowell Skoog, who had been very dismissive of TGR in the past posts and stated his disdain for it, posts his NMJJ ( whatever its' called ) on TGR! And thats not a personal attack, just a fact.
and later:
I hate hypocrisy( even though I'm a hypocrite) and we have people on TAY who post that they can't stand TGR and then post their stuff on it.

Message received Chris!
I've said in the past that I think a lot of the traffic on TGR isn't worth reading. (Some of it is, but my time is limited, so I don't spend much time there. Same for TTips.) I'm not eager to turn TAY into a clone of TGR, but I think it's fine for TAY to evolve and grow.
I can see how you might regard my annual TGR posts about the Northwest Mountaineering Journal (NWMJ) as hypocrisy. But the NWMJ is not "mine." It is the product of dozens of contributors and volunteer editors. As "publisher" of the NWMJ, I owe it to those people to spread the word about the journal. So maybe I'm a hypocrite, but in this case I'm proud of it.

I appreciate the site and the work of the moderators. I have met new friends I never would have met and certainly gone to places I would not have had the chance to otherwise. I think it's really likely that the rules and site moderation have contributed to that. It can't be coincidence that every person I have met in person from TAY has been good to ski with, and that's ultimately pretty much all that matters.
This doesn't disparage any other site - it's amazing that it's possible to go immediately to as many urls as you want and you don't have to choose.
