Part of it may stem from efforts by the U.S congress to develop and enact climate change legislation over the past few months. This seems to have stirred up lobbying groups (mainly from fossil fuel and utility interests), which can easily exploit disagreements among scientists and gaps in public perception in order to degrade public support ahead of US legislation. The U.S. and China basically opted out of bringing any commitment to the December meeting in Copenhagen, which was looking to build an international consensus to replace the Kyoto agreement. Meanwhile, from what I've seen, the science behind climate change seems to have gotten only stronger, and unfortunately seems to be trending towards the more dire predictions, which only a few years ago were towards the extreme end of the spectrum of possible changes.

So I bought a prius, I eat sun chips (solar powered chip factory), bought an energy star big screen t.v., and just did a "green" remodel on my house. Why are the glaciers still melting? I rode my bike to work a lot last summer, what the hell?
Of coarse its getting warmer, but to say WE caused it in a hundred years or so is preposterous. Its just another way for Al Gore (yes he is getting PAID!) and others to make money by scaring people. Don't get me wrong, I think every one should drive a fuel efficient vehicle, and recycle and all that. But lets be honest, one massive volcano eruption can spew a lot more " terrible awful carbon" into the atmosphere than the human race could in a hundred years. So drill your ice cores and make your correlations about what is causing the warming, and how we must stop before it too late, I for one am gonna get mine before the whole Sh$% house goes up in flames!
O.K. bring it on guys..........

Hey Jimmy: Who has more money at stake: Al Gore or the petrol/auto, etc. industries who are paying people to cast doubt? It works both ways.

Andyski, I was just trying to bring up the point that you can't believe everything you hear, because there is always someone trying to profit from your reaction. Sure Gore and other proponets of human induced global warming have less at stake, but they see an oppurtunity to make some serious cash. And lets not forget that the petrol/auto etc. industries stand to make money off of reconfiguring the current infastructure, i.e going green.

Ease off the throttle a bit Jimmy, if you want this post to hang around. The GW threads around here can get a little too warm and Charles likes us all to be a happy family, such as it is. Picking a fight is a bad start.
Agreed, though, that you can't believe everything you hear. That said, I think it's a poor comparison to claim that Gore getting paid for his presentation circuit is in the same league as the profit-motive for the oil companies.

...I belive that's a Winston Churchill quote or paraphrase, if you will.
I think that's a mute point. I think a better illustration of someone getting rich of the back of a "good" or "moral" cause (emphasized quotation marks for both) is a schmuck like Pat Roberts with his religious crusade/genocide. If you want to get an idea of the logic of getting rich off of global warming, check out the book Earth: The Sequel

As somebody once said , " never underestimate the stupidity of the general population ( me included)."
