Can somebody start a good argument please?? was created by Scotsman
It's getting kinda boring around here at the moment. Can somebody post something controversial so we can start posting in bold letters and using exclamation points again?
You know like Subarus are terrible cars or Dynafits suck etc etc
Skipole, calling Skipole????
Just asking ???

How about:
At what point in the spring do you stop carrying avy gear?

Fix the heel, fix the problem.

JPH not bad we'll see how it develops before awarding points.
My 2 cents.
there is a time when I stop carrying avy gear or even a shovel and it's in the late spring when the no new snow is being deposited and I'm sure everything is bomber. Can't give you exactitiudes but there just reaches a time when it feels right for me.
To take this one step further, I think a lot of people carry too much stuff at the sacrifice of speed and mobility. I'm not talking about avy gear in the winter that is a must but just generally. I'm a firm believer in fast and light and have a very pared down version of the 10 essentials which I take but see a lot a people carrying a lot of gear. I think the " Freedom of the Hills" and "Ten Essentials" creed has created this mindthink and is old fashioned.
I'm also not a firm believer in GPS units alone. I don't have one, would like one and would use it but I mostly carry a map and compass and think that situational awareness should be kept at all times. I would be worried that if I depended upon GPS alone or had an attitude that I can't get lost with a GPS then when a technological failure occurs I could be in trouble.
Marcus , The free the heel, free the mind versus fix the heel, fix the problem is like that Monty Python sketch where the guy pays for an argument and then goes into an office with John Cleese and after a brief exchange says" this is not an argument, an argument is a discussion with both sides presenting facts and data to support their case, this is just you saying the negative and I paid for an argument", John Cleese says " no it isn't", Micael Plain replies" Yes, it is" etc, etc.

I carry a GPS, but I only use it to set my altimeter.
