This is what I have come across thus far regarding what the DOT has to say about the slides.

Looks like things are taking a turn for the potential worse with a warming trend to add to the mix!

Scary snowpack with a weak layer buried pretty deep.  Of course the DOT closes the road just to make everyone's life miserable --NOT!
huge amounts of snow, (sure just 11" in one storm) steep terrain without many anchors, a buried weak layer, and warm heavy snow on top of low density snow. 
I know the crews(avalanche and plows) haven't been getting much sleep lately....they are working their butts off

And to put the thread title in perspective, 11 feet would be more accurate than 11 inches at this point.

Adding up the telemetry at Alpental, 4.5 feet since Saturday. Last night's snow had something like a 20% water content!
