Hey Gang:
With winter alive and well here in March, it looks like conditions will be good for VertFest Alpental this Saturday, the 29th. Martin Volken threw down the gauntlet after the Crystal event - he thinks we can break the 100 racer mark for Alpental. We'd love to see that happen. The more the merrier, but best of all we will raise that much more money for NWAC. So please twist the arms of your friends who are on the fence and get them to participate!
Please note that the mandatory pre-race meeting will NOT be happening in North Bend on Friday night. Instead, it will take place in the lodge at Alpental at 9 am Saturday morning.
Day-of-race registration opens at 8am sharp and closes at 9am.
Also, please be aware that we won't be having gear demos or clinics for the Alpental race.
And don't forget that we have the team relay category this year. 3 person teams of any gender mix. I know of two teams from Outdoor Research that will be battling it out for team glory - and there has been a bit of trash talking around the office this week...fun stuff.
And last, but certainly not least, I should say a quick word about beer. The great folks at Lazy Boy Brewing will be supplying beer once again and there will be plenty of it. Nothing like a little "hop therapy" after the vert is had. Rumor has it that one of the kegs will be Belgian.
Thanks for supporting VertFest and its sponspors. We'll see you on Saturday morning.

The course is up and it's mostly the same as last year (no ladder section [bootpack #2 on map] this year).
Map from last year's course here:

Good Luck to all!

On behalf of the NWAC I just wanted to say thanks again to Kaj Bune, Martin Volken, Outdoor Research, the Friends of the Avalanche Center, Alpental, all the other sponsors, and all attendees for a really fun day including the party and swagorama that followed. Plus nice to see some folks I don't see often enough.

Great event! Even though I was near DFL and fatter than ever, I had a great time.
I don't know if any of you know about the Wednesday night world championship of mountain biking at Seatac in the summers. It's a great mt. bike race series.
It made me think, I'd like to see a Wednesday night World Championship of Rando next year. We could race up one side of Summit West or Summit Central, across the top and down the other side. It would be great training. One lap beginners. Two laps advanced and expert.
Thank you all.
PS Also, if any of you saw a black skin bag with some schwag in it, I lost it. email me at psteilberg at mhlseattle.com
