Post-holes in your skin track? was created by Lahar_Dar
Baker ski hill is horrible for this, as any skin tracks near the area are destroyed by the walking beasts. I am asking what can be done to educate others about this, besides becoming irrate and taking out the guns. Does this bother others in this forum?? An ideal situation would be a skin track, a sno-shoe track and a foot track. Thoughts?

I think we should take pleasure at the opportunity to make a fresh, new skin track whenever it presents itself. Skin tracks are aid.

Additionally, how can we be upset with the poor souls driven to damage a skin track in a futile search for refuge from their poor gear selection?

The best way to educate others is to acknowledge them with a nod, a smile, and an encouraging word while skinning by them with the ease and efficiency of a competent backcountry traveller with modern touring gear.

Of course skin tracks are aid. Thats why I like them! (Fresh ones that is) You sound like a nice, compassionate, guy. I'll try using your technique and see how I feel.

IMO, Sky's showing wisdom and maturity far beyond his years.
The serenity prayer can't ring truer here. Lahar, you're certainly not alone; there's at least one heated thread on this subject on just about every bc board on the net every year about this time (but usually it's a month or so later than this
woo hoo, c'mon snow! - Sky plz don't mention the ... well you know. Let it settle in on it's own
) with all sorts of heated, unkind and violent educational solutions to the irritation.
I tend to favor Sky's solution though, just 'cause life start's getting a whole lot easier for me when I'm not trying to figure out how to change folks.
Besides, being old and all, I really like using those nice wide snowshoe tracks instead of breaking trail after a big dump

It's not that they walk on the skin tracks that puzzles me, it's that they post hole 10 to 20 abreast on snowy roads.

....sand people walk single file, to conceal their numbers....

SERENITY NOW!!!! HaHa. So the skin tracks get destroyed and makes a rough go of it for people who try to use this same track. I guess that this will never go away in areas close to ski resorts. But to include this bit of backcountry etiquette in, say, Bakers (or any others) mountain education classes would be a great addition. Along with this, they could also include "no peeing in the skin track".
