Skis and snowboards are just tools, and as we all know, some people are, too. They just happen to be on skis or a snowboard.

And be careful folks, calling each other names (knuckledraggers, animals, and the like). Realize that it just sounds like a defense mechanism, hiding the reality you are just an inexperienced alpinist if you do not know how to both ski AND snowboard. They both have advantages.

hey sky - guess you're looking for what those advantages would be? Well, top of my head:

Skis - 1) long approaches. Nothing like skating instead of walking. 2) Variable terrain, especially with across-the-grain terrain. man, those toe-side traverses can be murder on a snowboard 3) ICE (but that's just me, I feel more secure with skis under me when on boilerplate) 4) moguls

Snowboard - 1) variable snow (I know good skiers can ski bad snow, but a snowboard makes bad snow fun) 2) dense forest approaches (ala NE birch glades. much easier to meneauver on snowshoes than skis) 3) long hikes in. nothing like walking into rainier with my hiking boots and strapping on the board. 4) super deep pow (bust out your 176 and go surfing)
