Well we went into the Kendall trap zone today. Besides tricky skinning up the stump due to pow on crust, the skiing was fantastic. Only open slopes got that grade, anything with tree cover got chunky...
I will say that the lower 2/3rd of Nash gate skied as bad as I can remember yesterday, the stuff you can cut your face, break your leg, slide forever on and of course forget about turning on it either...
Fabulous!
Ha, those smiley faces and skull and crossbones were you guys then! We set out just behind you around 6 this morning.
I saw them in the parking lot early too, must have got wind there was some action going down with control work. Not 100% sure what the official rating for Tues and Wed was but it is certainly a good t...
Thanks for the skin track today, much appreciated although I think the grade was way steeper than a AMGA certified track and has us slipping and sliding quite a few times but the waterfall section was...
The group who did the North facing mazama ridge said they had decent turns, the looked pretty good from our vantage on Skyline but the elevation is very low for the high temps. Paradise turns we...
Yup, it was good on the trees early today, read 7:45 1st drop-in. It felt wind affected just above treeline as you mentioned so we stayed below for our 2 laps before work.
Yup. I saw the forecast and the telemetry backed up light winds and a I figured a rating similar to yesterday and knew we had a short window to achieve this, probably before 9 to be sure. ...
Really Silas, I thought it was Tuesday. If it is tomorrow then my boys will be happy.
I wondered what it looks like there, it was crap weather when I was there. I heard reports that the WTH gets lots of traffic these days due to now having a stove (really cold when I was there ye...
I got stuck too but it was an easy one. There was a lady in the middle of the lot who high centred her Xi BMW sedan after leaving it overnight. Probably doesn't take much and we could...
author=ajjenkin link=topic=38063.msg154298#msg154298 date=1488980665]Dhaulagiri's are 98" under foot...not gonna do it out there right now. Go 115"+ under foot, you need to quiver up b...
Yeah, it was busy today and a lot heavier than yesterday. You are right about my skis, 99 is not enough in this stuff. I normally snowboard/split and just got the skis for volcano/spring s...
I still have not found the right line on Mt Catherine and its infuriated me on several occasions. And its a bit longer of an approach than other trails in the area although a hidden valley appro...
Coulda woulda shoulda. You made the right call.
Awesome to hear its still holding up, headed out tonight for full moon tour.
Look fine to me, wish I was there. If you have to blow over the skin track then do a hop and its all good. If you climb up the slope then ski down it however you chose, this ain't the...
We went up further today, just below slot. Found that crust you mentioned which disappeared climbers right of your track. Other than that, excellent conditions once again. Nothing mo...
Hey Silas! Did you see any whacky instabilities after the winds recently or was it all good. Headed early tomorrow and debating location to go for a few hrs. Thanks!
Gotcha, we never go over there, that part scares me.
Kendall trap being the thin stand of trees lookers right of the open slope below Kendall where Monty was found? I can't tell you how many times I've been up in those and figured it was...
Yes!! My skin track survives!!! Our crowning achievement for the year.
No, it was skinnable the whole way on a splitboard, minus boot to North chair, but was firm in spots between snow lk and Melakwa pass. Snowed some tiny perfect snowflakes most of the day.
We did it today and the skin track was barely viable if at all. Didn't see your camera either, sorry. Conditions same as reported yesterday without the wall to wall sunshine.
It was OK today but didn't ski all that great, chalky and chunky. Phantom was surprisingly awesome even with the sun its had recently but its been so damn cold and possibly with clouds help...
We summited yesterday (19th) in beautiful sunshine. Had the privilege of flying my paraglider down and landing at Schrieber meadows which was awesome! We didn't see any snomo's u...
Yes, early on was key today although the N facing stuff should still be OK I would imagine. We got up to around 5800' on chair but it was a whiteout in the bowl just as we turned around.&nb...
Alpental resort proper was great yesterday. A thin rain crust down low early on but with the new snow this disappeared. Very sensitive layer 10" down though even in the sidecountry.
And a yawn! ;)
