Thanks for the great post. Even with the swamp, it has inspired me to get up there at the next weather window before it is too late. Silver has a lot to offer and is so close to town. ...
Zap, after what happened last time, you go skiing in the rain/fog, in a known pollen area! I am beginning to question your judgement, buddy. I may head over to the the Teanaway area next couple days...
You would think we would have learned by now to always bring a "pollen kit" along this time of year, since you never know when it will strike! But, did you try my emergency technique w...
Thanks for the inspiring post, Lowell. That is such a beautiful area to ski that it makes one forget all the dirt-walking involved in getting there. Were you able to skin much from Squaw L...
You got me inspired to take a look at the map. There is so much good skiing within striking distance with Holden as your base. One time we went up Tenmile Creek (abandoned trail easy to fo...
Thank you for the news from Holden. We've been there many times, and it has to be one of the friendliest most charming places on earth! And, I've never skied there, so next...
couple more pix, since you are encouraging me.
Hollywood sent me a photo taken from Ingalls Pass: L to R --S Ingalls, Ingalls, E Ingalls, T-Man, Modern, JP Labs, Univac (kneeling)
45 min road walk. Nice conditions, but it should be mentioned that there is pretty bad pollen. You might want to bring some Goo Gone or something to clean it off.
James, yes you are right, I need a 12 step program fast! I even thought of tagging along with Hollywood on Olympus--a definite sign of sickness. No I am not skiing Anderson.
Hi Barbara, that was a fun day at Rainier. I may go back. I wonder if Silas is still down there holding court? Iron Mike took those pix and he is very good. Hope we can ski tog...
You are so right, and isn't it a good thing that I'm the bean counter and not in the editorial department!
We've climbed the Lynch and down the scramble route before (not skiing) in maybe 12 hours. Hard to remember. This is not a super human day trip. We were not that fast and took b...
Let's just say it was a n00b attempt at a kick turn!
Well, I didn't count exactly how many actual steps on dirt it was, Zap. Perhaps I've developed some kind of selective amnesia in order to better turn Type 2 into Type 1 fun.
Definitely snow covered, and as I recall the remains of cornices made the top prety steep.
The start is 19 miles up the Cascade River Road at the parking lot at 2160'. (this from the book Selected Climbs in the Cascades Vol1 by Nelson and Potterfield) and the route goes up a trai...
Mainly the left one. But my doc gave me some Oxaprozin, which I wish I had tried earlier since it worked really well. Of course, the "rare" side affects are kind of scary. So I am happy,...
Pat, that was a great day, but your descent off the tip top was the highlight. And of course you know that I would have been right behind you but I did not have the right wax. I also did not have m...
The route is South to South-West, but there is some deep snow piled in there. No avy depris, but differential melting due to aglae and dirt on snow has caused cupping, and if the suface was hard...
Thanks--I made the first movie public now, so it should work. Grab the popcorn!--Art
