Seems like everyone has been hitting Silver Star the last couple weeks.  I found out it was good reason.  A great ski day.

Climbed Silver Star Mt with a fun group of Mountaineers.  Left the Silver Star Creek parking area at 5:45 with several cars ahead of us.  No snow at the parking area, but only 45minutes or so until continuous snow began.  Skinned continuously from 4200-ft to 8600-ft summit col.  Ski crampons were delightful as was the snow conditions.

We were very surprised at how stable the conditions appeared.  There was a few small cornice collapses, but the snowpack was surprisingly firm for the top 2-3 ft.

Booted the final couple hundred feet from the col up to the summit.  Put the skis on at the summit and skied down a fun icy line.  A little billy goating through the crux and then open and nice.  From the col down the snow was a sweet 2-4" of creamy goodness.  More pics here and

Pat,  that was a great day, but your descent off the tip top was the highlight.  And of course you know that I would have been right behind you but I did not have the right wax.  I also did not have my brown pants!  Which is why I carried my skis back down to the saddle.

It was a really fun climb.  I'm not sure about putting wax on your skis though, it might add too much weight ;)

ah ha!  so you're the cowboy...  saw iron's TR.  Good to make that connection, not sure how trees and cowboys mix, but damn that looks like a fun run down!

Finally found someone with good overall shots...  Larry got a couple:
