I am so excited to see this!  We need (4) partners to join us at this Tam McArthur Rim hut April 22-25 (3 nights, 4 days).  We hope the conditions are this good and it's looking good with the predicted late-season storms. Check out partners wanted page for more info.

Thank you for all the glorious photos-we can't wait!

Beautiful photos and cool video- great trip report! I am headed to Icefall in a few weeks and I wondered, was there anything you took along that you didn't need or anything you didn't take that you wish you had? Thanks!

I brought my own harness. They supply them for the tours that go on glaciers but they were pretty big and bulky. Also brought flipflop...
Almost everything was very stable, but I could see chalky pillows hanging out in some of the steepish fun chutes. Surprised you didn't notice wind transport as we had to occasionally re-break trail on our skin track between laps.

Here's the pic of the slide, it originated where marked:
The road was in great shape to the trailhead. This page has the latest;

It had been closed earlier in the winter due to storm damage but they got it open again and I noticed snowshoe trip reports began appearing on the WTA site again. I just had to wait for a good weather window to line up with my free time.

As for the inspiration I have to give credit to Roger Merrill Oakes and his book about skii...

Nice work and photos. I'm also interested in gate status.
Hey Nico, you should get one of those little boxes with the opening hole. I heard they make great images!
Rock on
Good effort, it's great to see big goals, you'll get it next time!

Skied the standard routes down from the Castle today (3/18).  Very windy (+30 out of the east).  The wind slab was surprisingly unreactive on the N aspects I skied, nor was there as much transport as I would have expected.  I think the melt/freeze from sunny wx from yesterday reduced available snow for transport today.

Ditto that (3/17). Solo go. I got two ru...
Thanks for the inspiration and pics. Sounds like it was a great trip.
Was the road open all the way to the trailhead parking lot?
That bowl above Deer Lake is a lot of fun, and it would be even more so in midwinter---but how would you get in? At least in past years I think they've kept the road gated at the highway (15 miles from the trailhead) until it melts out. I've had fantasies of mountain biking it as far as possible and then flat-tracking the rest of the way to the tr...
The creek is pretty shallow down there right now, only ankle deep. Our boots protected against wet feet fortunately.
Worth it? I think so. It wasn't a complete sprint. I lost about an hour to route finding snafus and still had time to drop way below the trail to avoid slide paths and then take a second long run in the basin. I had originally wanted to summit Bogochiel but the direct route was getting really sun affected and when I was in the basin I preferred the sub peak closest to the summit because it had more protected snow and was still high enough to enjoy the views of Olympus. There would have been...
Awesome pics and video. Looks like a great spot.

"As the only short-legged asthmatic splitboarder in the group..."

Yeah, but it looked like you showed 'em how on the way down!  Nice video, Stew!  And Wow!  the scenery looks fantastic.  Thanks.
Haha, yeah in my humble opinion, surfing pow will always be superior to skiing it. And, despite almost always bringing up the rear on the skin track, du...
Great to see you had a good tour too toph.

Bit more info here: http://thepeakoftheweek.com/2016/03/red-mountain-snoqualmie-backcountry/

Here's a map of the tour as well: https://powersa.cartodb.com/viz/9635c466-ef00-11e5-a623-0ecd1babdde5/public_map
Any wet feet on the Henry Creek crossing? We stayed high and it was fine, but that low road looked interesting. Splitter day up there.

And your very own disco clothes! Stew...I may be totally wrong but your a...shredding fool.  I'm smiling right with you on the last few seconds of that video!

Thanks for the stoke!
Said hey to you guys in the west parking lot. glad you had a decent tour!
Nice!

Is the tour worth trying to do this time of year in a day without it feeling like a sprint?
almost have them all right side up now;

Thanks for the wonderful trip report, fantastic pictures, and by the look of it fantastic snow!  Just green with envy!

From that spectacular vantage, we could see Doctor Suess like cornices hanging from more or less every ridge line.

took this photo of cave ridge today

Descending the second Ridge
My buddys and I put the tracks beside the Pac Crest chair. As we drove up we bemoaned our lack of BC time this year but after four sensational runs and one tired dog we agreed that for a trip that involved about 2 hours of driving and got us home ahead of traffic, having to listen to I-90 was really the only thing about this kind of skiing that was a negative. Hard to beat prime carving and good company.

Thanks for the beta and excellent photos of a great looking place. Are there showers at the lodge? How was the food? $$$?
There are watering cans hung from a hook on the ceiling with a carabiner that you can fill with hot water. Works great as a shower. Food was amazing. Soup and snacks (as much as I normally eat for dinner) ready when you get back to the lodge. Big dinner 2 h...
Wow. That looks like a ton of fun. The photo of Mt. Arras is mind-bending.

Missed you darn it. I was at east and central letting my 3 1/2 year old shuffle on skis for the first time. Along with a lot of snow play.
About 130 pm there must of have 4 or 5 skinners over at east as things softened up along with one kite skier . Skiing on groomed areas at east or west was the way to go.

Taking a break this weekend.

Probably about 16" at the thickest.
Thanks for the report.
How thick was the windslab?
Thanks for the report Nick. We were undecided on a destination driving up, but this helped us choose an old favorite. We took the other approach up the creek, which wasn't bad (esp. since another group of 3 ahead of us broke trail most of the way - thanks guys!). Crusty snow on the east facing slopes as we left the trees had us wondering if we'd made a big mistake, but the upper slopes were excellent - just a touch of wind effect on the surface that didn't get in the way of wonder...
Looks like a lot of fun.
Wow, always wondered what that area was like.  Thanks for the report.
It didn't suck over at Yodelin either. It was a little too deep/thick in the open and especially where the sun hit it later in the day, but the stuff that stayed shaded stayed great. I got moderate sluffing going on particularly steep pitches and knocked out  a few very small chunky bits near the ridge but that was it.

Excellent!  I am heading up today for a couple quick laps after work... not sure how much will be left or what the sun is going to do today, but even leftovers is better than sitting at home.
Jimw, thanks for the great pic, really like the Tam pano, had to go back and check Mikes vid to see the kicker.  And Ben, your pic are really great, thanks.
JimW - Love the 'shitkicker'!  It wasn't till the second glance that I noticed the person poking their head out of the door!  Awesome picture!

Great write-up Jamie and excellent video Mike!  I had such a great time up there and it was well worth the trip over!  Everything about the trip was better than I had anticipated....good snow, good company, and good food.  Here are a few of my favorite (of many) pictures from the trip.

Great summary of weather/conditions. The best splitfest conditions ever?  I rode the chairs Sunday morning and it was good, except I had no camera for that cool silver light, the glaciers glowed blue!  My last trip down the blueberry's into swift then out to grandmas put me just behind the last visibility of the day. Made for a slow exit. Wanna thank the crew that puts this on every year, Pete at chair 9 is a great host. See ya next year.
Great TR and looks like a very cool place off the beaten path.  Thanks for sharing and will add this to the list of places in the west to ski/check out!
No sorry for the confusion. Hiked out the standard "exit". Slot would be a pretty fun mountaineering hike out though.
