Hey schmitz,
I think you actually did more elevation then you stated . I set my altimeter at the road at 2700, and had the ridge at 6200. My last spy of you and your dad, I would guess you were 6500.

Thanks for the photo of Kenya, and not mentioning I bonked at the ridge, while you pressed on to the summit. Excellent day... look forward to seeing you on the next trail..

Jerry, you're turning into a regular "Warren Miller". Fantastic viddy. I played it twice right off, with a big Chessy Cat grin on my face ;D, the whole time. Very nice still shots, too.
Amy, your trip report was Perfect ;). Thanks for doing it.
Very nice group, gang. Next week it will even be better 'cause we'll have Stefan and the MadDog to add to the eclectic mix.
This stuff's really fun, eh?

JW - Well, the video is perfect. I was hanging around the lower end of Glacier Vista trying to teach my step grandson from Florida (first time in snow) how to snowboard while I was messing around with the skis. I am sure that all you guys went zipping by me on the way down.
here's another with rock moutain in the background

I skied solo on Sunday, so all I have is a picture of my tracks. As noted above, there was lots of untouched snow. The Artist Point ridgeline, where this was taken, had some wind influenced texture, but the abundant powder was rather remarkable considering that it had rained hard just several days before. A great day to celebrate my first 12 month stretch of teleturns.
Jeff : If you want to find Robie, look for the coolest hat !That'll be him 8)
Robie, I suspect the answer is no but I'm going to ask anyway: do you use superloops with heel lifters implemented by PCV pipe tide around your ankles? I've seen a few photos of you before, and there was someone at the Paradise road bridge with the above setup who looked similar to your photos.
Eric, right after you left us we decided to take another run. This time we skinned up to 911 ice face and skied easterly tight to gulley to bottom of 912. It was the longest run there. Finally skied out mazama on some unskied snow at 330.Backbowl snow that hadn't seen sun was still powder.

I love this route in the spring, but I've never done it in the fall. How was the avalanche risk?
I glad someone took photos, I didn't get up there until noon. Totally forgot to take a camera. Although I have been hiking and snowshoeing on Rainier many times, I am a newbie to bc skiing, so I wasn't too sure how it would work out. But skiing that stuff was awesome!
Tried out some purple skins and alpine trekkers for the first time. It worked but I wasn't very fast. Pretty heavy with the Pocket Rockets. I was able to skin up some pretty steep stuff, I think better th...

Amy, many of us would appreciate hearing from you and the "Rainier Regulars" what time the gate opens. I hope you will report gate opening times in your future posts. Thanks.
You said it Jimjar!!!!!!
I had a great time - thanks all to letting me tag along!

Glad to hear you had some good turns on fresh snow cover! There's definitely some fun lines down from the ridge WSW of Rock Lake ;) It's amazing that much of the old snow survived last week's heavy rains.

meant Bagley -- never got to iceberg lake due to aforementioned renegade skin.

I think it safe to say I am envious. I am hopefully heading to Paradice on Thursday so hopepfully the weather and snow conditions will be close to those conditions.
Great report from a perfect day. My head is still up there on the mountain. How will I ever get any work done today?
After yesterdays turns yes it is normal. At least that is what I am telling myself.
Very nice photo's Jerry, looks like I missed a great day in Paradise. I'm back from the "other" Paradise :D and looking forward to skiing this next weekend.
Another nice picture and TR, Jeff. Thanks for posting. Super day - Can't wait to get back out there.
Thanks for reporting Amy, quite a day! I was skiing when that slide ocurred up on the mountain, but I caught the cloud of smoke from it @ should have another short video soon.
Good skiing with you all!

Saw your lovely S's from Pan Pt, GJ. Thanks for the photo.
It was a beautiful sunny day. 8) Some of the Muir snowfield's new crop must have blown over to the back bowl to get the 6 to 12 inches Snowslut and friends found. I started late and skinned up to 8600 ft, where there was 1 to 3 inches of new fluffy powder on the east against the rocks, with some thin sun crust and wind sculpting and some ice, and 4 to 6 inches of good stuff out in the middle and west. Edges were scraping on ice below...

When I close my eyes right now all I see is freshiez. Is this normal?
Another big backcountry day in the neighborhood, with lots of tracks but lots of untouched powder remaining, lots of blue skies, sunshine and grins. We traversed through the fresh slide debris on the south face of Table Mountain to the Ptarmigan Saddle area, where (at least) a group of five and another of three seemed to have scattered up and down tracks over a variety of aspects. Skied a couple of short lines here and there, then skinned up and over the Inner Glacier, exiting down t...
Thanks Eric, sounds like you guy's had as much fun as us! A great day indeed 8)
Thanx. Can't wait to read what you guys and gals found!
BTW I think I'm starting to go thru powder withdrawls now. ;D

We were also out and about the artist point area in what turned out to be a glorious bluebird powder day. We noted about 6 inches of fresh atop an icy, consolidated base. We yoyo'd the area all day and didn't notice any avy activity except for the normal avy debris around table mountain.
Also, I'm just trying to get my topography right, but hank did you mean bagley lakes?? I thought iceberg lake was one of the lakes on the south-westish side of herman saddle. &nbs...

Silas,
I remember you saying you didn't think you were going to get some skiing in! I'm glad you proved yourself wrong!!! I hope you bring some of the good snow vibes our way...see you soon!

Silas, Good to hear that you're enjoying the Spring skiing down under. We are experiencing the monsoon season. I wish I had returned early enough to join you for the adventure. Next year. :)

Finally got some video out for this day: http://home.comcast.net/~jwvideo2/images/PanEast12.wmv
We were at Stevens today, still not open and for good reason. Arrived at about 9:30 AM and saw Alpental bros Chris and Eric in the lot with the same idea as us; unfortunately it had rained the night of the 22nd up to around 5,000ft leaving mushy fresh at the bottom and rain crust at top. Our plans to skin up Tye Mill and ski Double Diamond/Big Chief were abandoned when we saw this:

It was good to catch up with you again....and to meet Rod and Jeff. Saturday was heaven compared to Mount Baker's opening day...tons of people and very little snow.

Had access to a computer and thought I would check on everyone at home. Ron's right, I'm off doing some Mexico stuff for a little while. Don't worry there isn't any snow to report about here in Puerto Vallerta 8) It's hot and fun!! Did manage to do a jungle zip line canopy tour today. Consists of 13 zip lines though the jungle at various heights. The highest one being 450 feet above the jungle floor and 1,000 feet long. Takes you from the jungle, across...
Sounds like folks were all over the place on that thin rug of November snow! Did you see or hear any evidence of folks on the CD glacier on Saturday? Bennett's car was missing from Maple Falls and never appeared at the MBRC upper parking lot.
I was in the group of 3 that were the first ones down the chutes. I have to say that it was a pretty good run, I agree with the snow observations...but given my expectations it was quite fine... The second pitch, after the dog-leg to the left was pretty damn nice..again..low expectations....but sadly the best snow was the very low angle stuff at the moraine.
Given that we weren't the first up we were happy to have the first tracks down the chute!

Nice location for a trip! I would like to try the ridge on the other side of the Lake Ann before 20 closes this year... Last spring when skiing Black peak, we had scoped out those valleys as alternate routes to avoid the avalanche prone traverse from heather pass to lewis lake, and to possibly shorten the trip.
From arial photos, it actually looked like the valley draining Wing Lake rather than the one draining Lewis Lake had more potential for a ski descent (one valley to the north) - L...

Thanks, Tim! Went well with my oatmeal and coffee!
We were in the Goat Rocks in July, had the entire place to ourselves, and stupidly neglected to bring snow sliding implements. I think mid to late June would be a good compromise in terms of fairly easy access (the very good trail would be mostly melted out) and still-good snow. It looked like this:

very, very nice video. the snow looked tasty! thanks for sharing.
