Wolfs, Brother of Wolfs, and I were there as well. Out past table mountain. We had intended to ski the slope beneath Coleman pinnacle, but alas I was too slow.

Saw some nice figure elevens done by some radical snowboarders. Lamely we made turns on the nice untracked snow. Sure was cold in the shade of Ptarmigan Ridge.
Alpinedave, welcome aboard TAY, check your PM,   ;D
Nice photos you guys.
Clearly a stellar day.
Sorry about all those tracks SB. The conditions sure were sweet this weekend, especially on north facing slopes.
Thanks for the photo's Stefan, I also have some available for viewing here.  :D

;)Sorry, it's just that I've lapped that shot a couple times over the years in whiteout conditions and know it all too well...Plus you look at it everytime you leave the parking lot!

...but, remember the crust ? well, it got progressively thinner the higher up we got, and while i was able to milk a few satisfying turns, my friend kept breaking thru the crust...

Great TR Ema, thanks for the smiles.  Ron and I can tell you a few stories about breakable crust and which of us is able to milk a few turns while the other is not so fortunate  :D
Was in a bit of a rush when I posted the TR.  Yes, the pic was taken at Alta Vista and not Panorama point.  The wind and fog had rolled in at Pan Point and visibility went to just a few feet.  But down below, there was a nice sun break, no wind, and some great snow.  So I stopped under the slope of Alta Vista, dropped my pack, walked up and skied down.
good to run in to ya Eric and Jim.
Yesterday was fantastic up there...this morning on Mazama Ridge the weather was a lot warmer. The snow was still fun, but not the face-shot powder like on Saturday and Sunday.
We broke camp and headed for the parking lot as the day-trippers began to arrive and see what lines were left to ski.
Ahh, another convert.  ;)
Sounds like you're really developing a knack for finding secuded ski destinations, too, Ema.  I might need some lessons in that area.
my funnest day on skis yet. the snow was perfect. and so was the company, although Jerry should have been there.

some pics I took are avail for you to view at

Excellent report Eric. I would say you summed it well. What a perfect start to the New Year.
Where's this Golden Gate and 911 gully stuff in relation to mazama ridge/pan point, etc?

If I tell ya I'd have to kill ya. ;D ;D ;D

Was up there on Friday for some of that soft snow goodness. beautiful day, not that many people either. nice.
We were there Friday, but didn't make it as far up as you did.  The snow was nice, what little there was of it.  Lots of bounding off submerged rocks and limbs, but it was fun.  I certainly won't be complaining about Alpental not opening up.  Looks to me like they'll need another 24 inches at least.
Knowing that the masses had headed towards Mazama...

Yep Mad_Dog the masses sure did head out that way.  Kind of got that ski resort feeling by mid day.  Glad that was our first stop before we moved on.
Jan 2,

hit the Baker area and skiied a couple of laps underneath Table Mountain, north facing aspect.  Amazing how tracked up the area was.  The snow boarders seemed to be systematically working on the steepest drop-ins remaining.
Didn't cut trail all day, the snow that had been packed was noisy styra-snow.

Beautiful blue bird day, any uncut sections you could find made for nice turns.
It looked like in order to get your own uncut section of hillside, you needed to...
Hey Jer, thanks for capturing our fun day on film!  ;D
in the interest of accuracy, isn't that Alta Vista rather than Pan Point? 8)
Wow.
Another great job on the cinematography, Warren... I mean Jerry.  That's another keeper.  Great choice of bg tunes, as well.  Very nice work.
Yeah Stefan, we miss you man!  The light was not very good for video, but here it is  8)
Next time, Jim . . . but I'll probably be up on Table with you!
No - if we crossed paths, it was likely just in passing on the slope (I was saying it was possible). I don't think we chatted, and I have T2s and World Piste skis.
You were the thin guy with Lasers and Dynafits over by the GS course? Good to chat with you!
We got in touch with Jordy through the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides web site

We possibly crossed paths at the ski area yesterday! Nice shot. I think that the tree that extends up to the top of the photo on the right is in front of the line we took from the saddle. I'll try that one again (in stable conditions...)! I think the headlamp parade we watched come down was heading near or in the gulley just to the left of the tree.
Hey, how much was the guide and where did you find him?  Thanks
Saw your tracks from the ski area yesterday, Jim. Nice!

Thanks for the report, it really helps those of us that have to wait till the weekend.

I'm sorry I missed out on what looked to be a great day. thanks for the pics and reporting not as good as bieng there but it helps.
Thanks for the pictures Jeanette!  It was definitely a great way to finish the holiday weekend (a tropical Paradise compared to the single digit temperatures in Wisconsin!).
It was a very fun day indeed!  :D  All of us were able to find lots of first tracks and very good ski conditions even though Paradise is reporting 35 inches at the base this year in comparision to last year being over 100 inches at this same time.  Here are a few pictures of our fun.  ;D

Thanx to Sanchez for bringing his kick butt digi cam.  He did shoot some vids too.  I need to figure out the easiest way to post them though.
Yep, late start and all it was a fine day on Green.  We came around the "corner" just in time to see SnoSlut and company on their first decent of the upper bowl.  That visual energized us and made the rest of the climb easier.  Snow was getting sticky down low before the corner, with our skins loading up badly.  But like he said, things were noticeably colder in the bowl making climbing and descending ( :D) much easier.  One of our party was not having much of...
Yeah Laura and I enjoyed a great day up there on the 23rd as well.  We skied creamy corn on the soft side of Table Mountain.  Then searched out the powder in the wind deposits on the North side of Table down to Bagley Lakes.  We had so much fun we skiied powder on the lower slopes into the lakes by moonlight before finally going home.  Super Fun.
Nice photo!

I drove up today in search of that very secret stash shown in your video, but warming temps had already had their way with the powder.  Still, with 3-4 inches of damp, fresh snow covering a strong crust, skiing was perfectly reasonable ("better than expected") whenever I could see more than ten feet in front of me.  Also of note: the new snow seemed well-bonded to the crust, and the approaching storm is starting out warm, as evidenced by the light dr...
Nice.
Bet the crowds were tolerable, eh?  ;)
Wolfs, it was a pleasure chatting with you yesterday.
I was able to sneak in under the boiler plate on the chute proper, but it was a bit sketchy traversing over some very steep water ice to get there. As you said, no complaints from midchute down. Looking back I figured your first few turns must have been over some wicked ice, but your skin trick explains the drastic difference from your turns lower down. Glad to see that you were able to make it in from the top but all in all where I entere...
Thanks for this report.  We are planning on heading to this general area on Sunday and will take your elevation suggestions into consideration.

Also, thanks for sharing your skins on, locked heals experience.  I've tried it too and had similar results, but thought it was all related to my propensity to gack on ice.

Is it your experience that the Muir snowfield remains windswept and icy throughout the winter or might the expected snowfall later this week soften things up?<...
If I ever move back to New England, I'll remember to invite you guys out for some tours right after the freeze that always comes after the thaw. Sounds like you'd love it...
it was a nice day, especially after it cleared later in the afternoon.  thanks everyone for the laughs.  below is a photo of Daniel keeping his edges under control:

More Pictures:  ascendingenjoying the view
Inclined hockey would be interesting, and pucks or not, skates would have been quite useful in places. Sounds like we were off by a day, but I'm with Eric, any day outside in the mountains is better than a day working on the house.

It was nice meeting and skiing with all of you!
Water-ice not withstanding, it was a pretty fun ski!  ;)
It had been a long while since the last time I used my ski-pons.

The eastern contingent was my brother and myself.  We're from Ohio, but both live in Washington now.  Yesterday's conditions brought back fond memories of skiing ice rinks laid over recovered trash heaps in lower Michigan.

The best part of the trip was probably the ascent, as well as some of the skiing at the very top.  It looked like a storm was coming in as we left, but the snow's likely to blow off.  Until there's some real accumulation, a pair of ski crampons is a...
Nice report, Doug.
Thanks for the info.
Yes, I'm reading this.  As long as it's small and econo I don't hold that much of a grudge against cars.
