crappy light and lazyness to blame

Hey J, I'm sure it had to do more with the crappy light situation than anything.  I have LOTS of great photos that I'm working on now, so check back later to see what you all missed.  I think we were actually in a time warp back to January.  ;D
We could not see from the summit since we got socked, but I have seen that from the Perry Creek trail before. I would guess that the north facing slopes in that valley have been protected since the recent snowfalls, so it might be worth checking out. I have always wanted to head back there in the winter but it seems to be one huge terrain trap from the trailhead to the falls.

I would have gone many other places since I dont like hiking with my skis, and I am sure Shuksan Arm would have be...
From Dickerman I imagine you could see down into the Perry Creek Basin to the north that separates Dickerman from Forgotten? If so, how is the coverage in the basin down lower?

A friend and I were in there right after the new snow began falling a few weeks ago and we wallowed around in knee-deep and deeper, but it seems that the "new" snow is consolidating/disappearing rapidly below 4000'.

I know the answer to is it worth it, but given hindsight and the possibility of a f...
Ron, thanks for the aspect corrections.  I made the changes in the original TR.  I knew those aspects, but flubbed them in the report.

Also, thanks for the enhanced snow descriptions.  You must be approaching the high northern people in the number of terms you have to decribe different types of snow.  I've heard they have 30, but this may be an urban legend.  I do notice that our local terminology reflects an industrial, jerseyesque background with descriptions li...
hi Ron.  styrofoam is right, about 5-feet of it.  good thing the crust was strong.  it carved nicely.  i figured that snow deposited by westerlies would have been a good ski, but it was more slab-like and easy to move.  oh well.  glad you guys had fun!
You have to watch out for the innocent looking ones - they're always trouble  :)

Lots of fun (as usual) despite the less than ideal conditions!
We'll miss your viddy, Jer, but we certainly won't whine, considering the work it takes to crank them out.  I know you got some great footy for the annual crash video, what with the intermittent flat light and the occasional unconsolidated mank we stumbled into.
Nice having you along as usual, Jibber, and great report.  My guess is that innocent look of Amy's is part of her standard issue "tool kit"  ;)
That "aspect" thing is always a bit confusing to me...
Eli, Eric and Drew - nice meeting you guys up there. This time of year is great - watch the weather, wait for cool temps and a bit of new snow and split after work. A quick three hour tour, some fresh turns and be home in time to put the kids to bed.

The skiing turned out better over in Stokes bowl which had only seen about 4 other skiers. Boot top and pretty light too. Just before it got dark I toured back over to International and got one last run in.
Nice photo, Kam.
Yeah, we were up there.  Unfortunately, the only "deep" we skied was bottomless styrofoam and then just enough to change aspects.
But as you say there was some great skiing on the supportable raincrust with the new freshies on top.  Definately worth the trip, eh?
So Jibber, how was that last run? I'll bet you had to bust out the sun screen 8)  Sorry folks no video this week >:(
crappy light and lazyness to blame.-------  Well after further review I decided what the heck......Roll another one

Yup, it was a fun little trip, the snow was pretty variable, but hopefully Sat will prove to better, although the pass cams look like rain.

cheers
Drew
Kam do you use headlamps?

does a worm sh*t dirt?

but you know, it's more exciting without... 8)

Victor falls eh? okay.  but you can't go too fast.  i only have one gear: 36-18, and no shocks.

When we are on our deathbed we sure as hell ain't going to be thinking "Wished I woulda worked more day"

true.  probably more like, "wished i had wider an...
I mt biked Tues and Wed night at Victor falls. no long drops there but lots of XC workout.Kam do you use headlamps?
When we are on our deathbed we sure as hell ain't going to be thinking "Wished I woulda worked more day"
nice report, Robie.  btw, when we goin' biking?  Casshole and i found some mud at Tiger Mtn. tonight.
Nice report, Robman.  Playing hookey again, eh?  ;)
I've been wondering what the coverage was like over on that ridge.  Thanks for the report.
Casshole skiing down Analvice?

;D

Sorry, all the Cass pics are on International . . .
Great ski and quick turn around on the pics guys!
Really nice shots (face and pics)!
Is that picture posted of Casshole skiing down Analvice?
Great ski shot!
Very nice, thanks for sharing such great photos.
klowns and kamels. sounds like a cirkus.

a few more photos:

Cass.
Photo kuddos to you too!
Thanks for the great morning.
...can't believe this work thing is in the way...

Work thing?  oh yeah, almost forgot about that after such nice 'pre-work thing' turns  ;)  The powder spray while wearing a T-shirt seemed to provide a much better wake-up jolt than caffeine  ;D

A few additional pics:

Kam's Karving

Actually, the lifts will be running at Alp Friday.
Sweet.
Nice call, you guys. Way to score on the goods.
Nicely done! Great photos! Thanks 8)
Nice!! You guys timed it perfectly...can't believe this work thing is in the way...
Was it really that warm, or does Cass just want to show his strong forearms?  ;D
looks like a good morning guys!  i've been making different kind of turns down here in the sunshine state, but i'll be looking forward to some of those soft fluffy conditions when i get back...make it happen for me, will ya? ;)
Ohhhh man. Me predicts your TR will trigger a serious run for the goods tomorrow as well. Hope it lasts.

Ah, I wouldn't  bother.  All that sun and heat (telemetry is showing temps 40+ this afternoon) will leave nasty crusts and turn all the snow to mank before tomorrow..
Ohhhh man. Me predicts your TR will trigger a serious run for the goods tomorrow as well. Hope it lasts. Also hope that Patrol saves working on the hill for Friday and won't do any catting and blasting tomorrow.
nice form, weepay!

You know it, dude...too bad you weren't actually there to see/ski it  ;)

A very fine morning indeed at the Alp.
Thanks for the info...I don't think the phantom was ever really filled in this year. Maybe I should head over to chair peak. I'm sure whatevers up on snoqualmie will be raveged as soon as  the sun peeks out. I must say though that is the most snow I've seen on the south ridge all year. Has anybody cycled runs off the north facing aspects of the small knob between snoqualmie and guye? That seems like fun and fairly safe on avy days.
Wow, nice photos Greg and Kam. That looks delicious.
SPICOLI: Greg's right.   Phantom is boney, but there should be enough snow to ski elsewhere on the mountain.  Skip and i were on the lower part of Snoqualmie last Friday, approaching via Commonwealth Basin, and the coverage looked good along the west ridge (visible in the photo of cascadesfreak and sheispiste).  here, read skip's trip report.
A fine breakfast with champions! Great to join you all for a beautiful morning. Kam and Greg: nice photos. Thanks!
Well, it looked like this . . .

Cascadesfreak & sheispiste with Snoqualmie Mt. in background

Not terribly inviting, at least on the S/SW side. The Phantom does not look like a continuous ski down . . .
Nice job.....I was up there yesterday in a hail/snowstorm.....blahhh
I was wondering if you guys got a look at snoqualmie mt while you were up there.....what's the coverage on it......Has anybody popped a track out on it?
oops, i just made the following post and then discovered that gregL beat me to it.  anyway, i'll just add my comments to this thread.  what a nice morning!

the following pretty much sums up the snow this morning

this morning cascadesfreak, sheispiste, gregL and i started skinning on a 2-3" layer of new dry powder on top of a somewhat firm and crusty base.  as we gained elevation,...
Jerry, your sense of humor is excellent!  Nice editing and camera work on the video.

Next time, instead of more cow bell, I'm calling for more Jerry segments.  I'll work on cleaning out my "goo pocket" so I can carry the camera more without turning it into a sticky carbo-loaded mess.

Mad_Dog, thanks for the kind words of reconciliation regarding "coming in hot".  Sometimes my learning curve seems as steep and long as Liberty Ridge.

Ron, I c...

Monika, you might want to see this film before you get to class tonight  ;D
;D

I'm not at work today to use a PC and have only a Mac at home so unfortunately I'll have to wait.

thank you everyone for another fun trip.  Those s. facing slopes were sure nice.

>>Did you guys ski from the saddle in the picture?
We skiied from a couple hundred feet above the saddle.  Although the avy conditions were particularly stable, I still felt a bit uneasy about the somewhat wind-loaded conditions higher up the glacier; thus, we did not venture much above the saddle.

>>How far up Mountaineer Creek road could you drive?
I made it all the way to the TH in my 4WD Tacoma--I would not have wanted to try it in a vehicle with less clearance.  Roa...
My photos aren't quite as entertaining as Jerry's video, but you can see more skiing shots HERE.  ;D  8)
It was a great day, indeed! Thank you all again for making my 30th even more special.  Now, where are we going next? :)
I'm interested in more beta, too!
More information please...I'm leaning toward a couple days in the area this weekend....

Were you able to skin in or did you have to boot pack?

Ranger said road was clear to within 2 miles of trailhead, true?

Was the slope below Asgard (sp?) Pass skiable as well?
Great Grins on the viddy, Jerman.
I don't know how you keep coming up with the great films.  We'll have to start calling you the "Animal Editor".

Monika, you might want to see this film before you get to class tonight  ;D

Other items of note to Paradise sliders...

The Paradise Valley road was plowed to blacktop at least one machine wide but not open.  Reflection Lakes road (Stevens Canyon) appeared totally cleared at the west end but barricaded......
What Zap said, though I have skied on Tallac via the Summer TH before. It was during a period of low snow coverage. We hiked the summer trail to the base of Tallac's southern bowls. The trail is longer then access from Spring Creek, but it was a quick hike devoid of snow.
