Mighty fine, Scott! Glad you had fun!
Love that one of Greg with Royal Basin in the background!
Cool. Thanks for the report. Sounds like you stopped at the ridge and didn't make the summit?
Awesome climb, Michael.
Nice to hear from you.
Wow, the Jungfrau----very cool.  One of the places I've read about since I first became interested in climbing decades ago.
Did you leave your skis partway up the peak?
How are the lift areas around there?
Nice!  Keep it coming.  Love the shot with the bike/log/ski crossing.
Welcome and wow!  Awesome pics!  Please, sir, can I have some more?
Wow. My first time on the mundane old Birthday Tour (yesterday) opened my eyes to the massive amount of terrain out there. Thanks for sharing another more ambitious route through it.
Nice!  Way to put a bunch of stuff together -- do you have a topo track of the day?

An awesome spring day, and since I got stuck with the report, I'm sure Gary would love to post some of those pics he took!

Yes, it was an awesome spring day. You definitely rallied as it progressed  :D
Here are a couple pictures and a link to a few more.

Thanks and I've been lurking on this site for a while now.  I love the sense of community that the backcountry  people have.  I have been skiing resorts for over 20 years now and that is losing my interest.  I need to get some avy classes this fall or next winter though.
We almost followed you guys up quartz creek that day but the sun was calling further east. Nice work Scott and Kyle..looks interesting back there.

I did far less than that on my first backcountry tour and I didn't write a report . welcome !
Keep it up.

I did less than Robie did on my first one but never told him about it... and also did not do a TR. (but, of course there was no internet to post one on, either, so I guess I can skate on that one, eh?)
ditto on the Welcome. :)

thanks for the update
I took it close to Blue Buck Peak. I like that shot too and was just thinking about maybe skiing there this week.
We were up there too.  Started at Blue Lake Trailhead to the Col then up again to Kangaroo Basin to the hairpin.  Great conditions and day.  It was my first time doing the b-day tour so that must count for something, right?

We also had a 14 year old on the trip and it was his first true back country ski.  he did great.

Nice to see you all out there.

Cheers,
Mike

Ok, here is a link to the photos:

I haven't been able to solve the photo-posting mystery at TAY, detailed instructions notwithstanding... But I'll keep trying.

Seriously, add some photos!

Gorgeous day for views but Dragontail and environs are well known so I won't clutter the site with photos.

I agree with skier8484. I don't even know where Dragontail is and anyway it is always nice to see the latest photos, conditions change all the time and photos often reveal more that the TR. Thanks.
Thanks for the TR. Hoping to ski St. Helens in two weeks.

...leaving me to wallow in clouds of terrible flatulence as my body tried to burn through whatever evil I had put into it the day before. I was miserable.

Try some of these next time.  I feel your pain (from experience) regarding touring induced flatulence too.

You know why you left the home slopes, and I sorta wish I were there with you!

Our apres-ski was just a little more PNW than that - we went here:
Way to go. Glad someone finally skied that.  I've been sitting out in the Straits staring at it for the past two weeks.

Ha!  I wouldn't worry about this.  Post your pics!
Why did I leave home slopes?  Nice work!  But did you have beer and strudel in the sun after the tour? :)
That's a good picture of Oval peak. Did you take that from Thompson pass?
Not to spoil Jim's party, but:

Actual first Bday Tour TR of the season...

Sounds like a great weekend Jim, thanks for sharing.

Jim, some people call it "Billy Goat Notch."

I assume that's the saddle area between the Early Winters/Copper ridge and Kangaroo? Good to know the name. I wonder what the col above is called - the map says Copper Pass is way south of there - maybe "Copper Creek Col?"

It was only the third time in I don't know how many trips where we've had the mountain entirely to ourselves (save for the lone mystery bootpacker/turner we saw evidence of down among the chicken heads as we descended - if that person is reading here, please do tell the story as I'm curious!). And one of those times was a really nasty weather day where I sort of wondered why we were continuing up in the fog-soaked alpine (and another was in '95 well before internet trip repor...
Jim wins for the first BD Tour TR of the season.  ;D  We saw BD Tour exit tracks on the drive back from Silver Star.    I see that the Blue Lake Col cornice is alive and well.

Hairpie?  Yuck.  ;)

Jim, some people call it "Billy Goat Notch."
Cool!  Not much solitude up there Sunday -- we were one of at least five parties.  Skiing was fun below 7000', somewhat wind beaten above that.  First time I've ever been able to ski to and from the road on a SS tour.
Nice TR with great writing. When you say scared, you must be applying the AleCapone scale. I think my "9" is your "3".

You guys have significant willpower!
Wow.  Sounds like a full day.  Thanks for sharing.
Wishing you had taken the Manaslu's?
I just opened up this forum to see if there were any new reports and saw my name. You must have seen the TR I put up years back. :) The Monte Cristo area is great and this reminds me I need to get back there again soon! To get to that trailhead, did you take the N fork Skykomish road from Index? Sorry to see you weren't blessed with nice soft spring snow as I was back then. From recent reports and my personal experience a few days ago it seems hard, icy snow up high is the norm right now.
Ha!  Murray did indeed bring a shovel this trip.  I don't think he'll forget that one again any time soon.
"No meals to write home about yet. "
OK, but don't keep us waiting for "der strudel" pictures too long.  Have fun!

So this is when I can start living vicariously through you?  Okay, good.  :)

Back at you!  Nice!
Great pictures, great memories of a great place.

Tell me -- curious minds want to know -- did Murray bring a shovel this trip?
Regardless of the "OK" nature of the descent on your end, it sure beats the 2 quick laps I did this AM at Snoq. West...

Glad to hear that you have successfully launched for another year. I am looking forward to hearing that costs will be nearly same as in past years, and that the fun quotient is as stellar as always!
So this is when I can start living vicariously through you?  Okay, good.  :)
What doesn't Picasa allow?  Oh, wait... linking?  I've been able to.  Give me a link to your album and I'll mess with it.
Staying tuned....
The day before I swallowed my "Pride" and did some but slide.  Riding wasn't the best but it was one of the most fulfilling days of my season. I think it is  little more deserving of a good write up then my usuall choppy hard to read style.

I did not know picasa didn't allow. that kinda sucks.
Picasa doesn't usually seem slow to me.  I use it to hold albums of ski trips but it does not allow you to link photos to TR"s. For that I use Flickr.

What happened the day before?
Excellant trip and write up(I viewed it on your blog first). Sounds like it was a lot of fun!

Thanks for sharing, and adding a few more entries into the lottery.
Yeah..

we had enough of that the day before ;)

I am making pictures right now. Switching to picasa since my bucket is full. Is picasa always so slow?
