These sorts of forays into terrain that has traditionally been the domain of skiers will, if nothing else, create more of a coalition that will push for more of a management plan for within-day-tour-distance-of-parking areas such as this. The pressure in this direction is already building.

I recognize that until there is some management plan for an area, snowmobiles have a right to go anywhere they choose.  Conflicts are arising because the backcountry is becoming more crowded with a variety of users.  We need to learn to share the limited resources.  It’s all part of being respectful of other’s needs and desires and recognizing how our activities can negatively impact the enjoyment of others users.

It is irrelevant where the sledders in this post lived, whether or not they were young, poor, nice guys, just having fun, or what type of sled they had.  The fact is that they were in an area where they should have been more respectful of other users.  They were either oblivious or didn’t care about the damage they were doing.

Those of you who thought that they didn’t get to the “good stuff” so it’s ok they were there also there missed the point.  They did get close to the good stuff, and if their unrestrained actions continue, they will find it.  If there is a skin track to follow, the snowmobiles will eventually be close behind.  It is not compatible to have snowmobiles and skiers ridding in the same location.  There is an urgent need to have a management plan for this and other areas that establishes acceptable activities.

the selfishness here is astounding.. we have more than enough wilderness to ski untracked lines in peace and quiet. Aside from that, Skyline ridge is the last place I would go to for solitude. I have never seen or even heard of someone taking a snowmobile up skyline ridge. Any sledder that knew better would go somewhere else, anyway. I am almost positive the general public cannot unload snowmobiles at the parking lot there.

What we should be doing, instead of whining like little girls on internet forums and crying to the nanny state for more rules is try to educate the snowmobilers and work with them. More regulations and red tape will only come back to bite us. Most of the sledders I know have no idea about their influence on the ski touring crowd... just like when you see some lost yokel from the ski lift following your skin track in his boots, trampling them to bits without a clue. No one on Snowest is promoting wilderness riding or the like. EDUCATE DON'T REGULATE! We are all out there to enjoy the snow, and there is plenty of room for everyone.

If you don't know where to ski and want to hit the untracked heaven only attainable by deathmobile let me know, I will give you a ride and a beer. Otherwise, please do not push more regulations. Many of us have snowmobiles too.

Look Im not here to start a pissing match. For fear of being dubbed a " Bad Apple". I am just giving you a profile of the most likely perpetrators.
I ski in this general area a lot, most likely more than many on this forum. In fact I recall taking Mr. Brills Avi class in that area almost 20 years ago...Thank you Gary. I have never had an issue with the rare occasion of a rouge "Sno Mo" cutting up my ski lines. Now if it was a frequent accurance I would probably have a different take. However, with all of the reasons stated above such as parking, unloading and the such, I feel that we are safe from the sled neck masses.

instead of whining like little girls

An extremely sexist comment. Tsk, Tsk.  Most females are far less whiny and  far tougher than men.

"Whining like a TAYer ," would be a more accurate and less stereotypical adjective.
