Rockface - Tuesday morning patrol was throwing bombs above Rock Face. Kelly's Gap was closed and "unpassable due to debris".

A lot of second guessing going on here. After talking with patrol that set the bomb, I'm going with their story.

Real nice day skiing at Crystal today, Thursday, March 13.  Of course everybody was trying to get a view of the slide from the Campbell Lodge area... Just like in the videos.  Then we skied down upper Cmac and cut over to Queens Run at the end of the avy trail... Took pics.

Just hoping Baugher isn't in trouble with management.  Any estimate yet for the cost of damage/replacement?  An incident report, since we've had a casualty(RIP, High Campbell!), would be interesting/helpful.

Something else: We had a very cold snap of about two weeks here in Central Oregon--like below zero f. and at one point minus 20 and minus 30. I'm guessing CM had some real cold temps at that time. So--with the very shallow snow pack it seems probable that a huge temperature gradient had developed --a perfect scenario for depth hoar/faceting. Sure things have warmed up considerably but I'm guessing not enough time of warm temps has allowed for the sublimating of the depth hoar back to
Equitemperture snow crystal structure. Add to the warm pack , rain and lots of heavy dense snow and from what I can tell, you have a pack that is still weak (facets), lots of crusts, super saturated with water from huge rain events--it was only a disaster most likely immanent some time this season.

I think the patrol made the right call..

So anybody want to start a poll on when the snow brought down by the Throne avalanche finally melts this summer? Or will it persist until next season?
