I'm psyched to get up into winter tomorrow! Fingers crossed for an early gate opening to compliment the glorious new snow.

Is HWY542 closed tomorrow through 10/4 8am-230pm? Will the gate open tomorrow at Paradise?

Hate to dampen the enthusiasm, but starting Tuesday, October 1st, all National Parks may be closed at the entrances: "Wherever posssible, park roads will be closed and access will be denied," states the Park Service's contingency plan drafted in the event Congress fails to pass a Continuing Budget Resolution to keep the government operating.

Also, be aware of the nasty bureaucratic regulation supposedly requiring 4-5 feet base before skiing:

Now I suppose we have to start worrying about when the road will open from Longmire each day, and if it will be closed Tuesday-Thursday?

No one seemed to be willing to come out and express any concern about anyone skiing today.
The shutdown is another thing, however. I guess we'll see what happens.... Write your government representatives.
