Never leave home without it.

A small thermos with hot tea.  I learned this from touring with the Rossland boys up in BC.  At first I thought it was a wastefully heavy luxury item until I tried it myself.  Nothing like a small cup of hot tea at a blustery summit before dropping in, especially if you're waiting for the rest of the party to summit and transition.  On really cold days the hot liquid seems to help me digest food into energy better as well.
