Trips Reports - Herd Mentality was created by khyak
I used to post trip reports, maybe ten years ago. Now the last thing that I want to do is tell where I went and how it was. It's getting more crowded in the backcountry and I have seen a direct link between trip reports and the amount of people in a certain area. This last week the Kendall chutes were all the rage. People were all up and down the ridgeline looking for the chutes favored in a TAY trip report. It's unfortunate because it can be really nice to get condition reports before you head out. However, who wants their favorite destination overun with TAY lurkers. Definitely seeing more posts with a general geographic designation to avoid pointing the gun at a specific area. I have to say I really appreciate that technique. Not sure where I am going with this thread, but guess I was just curious what the prevalent opinion was on trip reports in this increasingly crowded era.

I like the detailed TAY reports giving exact location and access routes and condition reports.
They are very useful in determining where the TAY herd will likely be and then I go elsewhere.
Without detailed locations, inadvertent running in to a TAY herd has a higher probability.
Thread drift , but what is the correct term for a collection of TAYers?
A herd of TAYers?
A pod of TAYers.?
A cluster of TAYers.?
A murder of TAYers?
A gaggle of TAYers?
thank you.

Gotta love the power of Internet, Twitter and in your facebook.
Agreed that the last location posted is the first place to avoid.
Just like the target shooters, I can appreciate that they enjoy the sport and it's growing, but just don't do it where I'm at.

Who whould have thunk that places under an hour from a city with two million outdoorsy people would get a lot of traffic!

Totally agree.
Spoon your tracks, place nice with each other and go to where the conditions as reported by the latest TAY tr says it's good. Keep posting those detailed TR's ( with pictures please) and especially the ones with Randy and Silas. They know where the best snow is and it's fun to ski with others, especially in the BC......and safer too. If there's other tracks it means it's safe....right?
Bring some nice food and drink to share and GUNS! Your friends can throw snowballs for you to skeet shoot....and it'll provide protection from bears and tweakers. An impromptu biatholon race in the skin track with your friends is another possibility and it has a historical basis and validity.
Large groups can provide so much fun with the right attitude and some creativity.

Randy, who said I wasn't playing nice. I just don't want to share my knowledge with a bunch of clueless skintrack followers. Yes, that may be selfish, but after 15 years of poking around Snoqualmie Pass, I don't want my favorite runs given up to the thousand TAY readers that can't come up with a destination on their own.
