NSAS is NOT a fundraiser, no will it ever be.

it is a stand-alone event meant to unite the avalanche community and help to disseminate critical information to recreationalists and professionals alike. Our sponsors make it possible to offer ticket prices that are ridiculously low for the quality of content delivered by the speakers, as well as the bonus of having free beer and smoked salmon for all attendee's.

Those that have already bought tickets; bravo, and thank-you for supporting NSAS.

Those that have yet to purchase their tickets, do it NOW, and know that your funds go to support an event that not only provides a direct benefit to the participants, but also benefits those that come into contact with the guides, avalanche educators, ski patrollers, highway workers, and other avalanche professionals that attend NSAS.

I'm so confused. You want our support and it's not a fund raiser? Where does the money go?
Everywhere I see FREE BEER... at $35/$45 a ticket... sounds a bit like Paul Butler saying "We did not chop those trees down."

That said I went last year and had a great time!
The marketing just seems a bit... confused this year.

The money goes to support the event which has a budget of over $16,000. This year I had to rent the Kane Hall venue due to a scheduling conflict with REI. REI has donated their venue for past NSAS events, and were very disappointed to not be able to carry on the tradition this year. The Kane Hall rental added over $3,000.00 to an already tight budget.

Please take time to thank your sponsor's for stepping up to the plate to help cover the shortfall.

In particular, the American Avalanche Association, Alpental BARK, REI, and The Summit Ski Area, all pitched in extra to help balance the books.


I mention that NSAS/NSAW does not have a primary purpose of being a fundraiser, unlike a similar seminar held in the Southwest. I do not sell the beer, do not sell the salmon, and offer participants the chance to attend a very modestly priced professional seminar in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.
