- I've been b/c skiin' for about 20 yrs. I live down in the Sierra (central Sierra). It seems the avg. pitch of a slope has about 4 to 500 vert ft. I like to take about 4 - 5 laps, which takes (for me) about 4 hrs (and drinking 1 water bottle). It's also nice to know the elevations of the top and bottom of chairlifts at a ski area. I ski way too much to count how many days for the season, but I do keep a general idea of what I'm doing in the b/c. -thanks

Oft baby, I don't think skiing from the Base Lodge to the Sorting Elk counts as "vertical". ::)

I tracked all my vert for several seasons in the mid-nineties semi-obsessively until I blew up my third avocet watch in 3 yrs (all condensation). I tracked uphill vertical for several seasons a few years ago but stopped when I killed my suunto x6hr. The battery life in my replacement garmin 405 is so poor (lucky to get 3hrs of gps) that most of the time I don't bother.

Thanks for the reminder, Mofro.  I'd forgotten the name of that watch (Avocet) that came bundled with a pair of K2's years ago, so I didn't mention it earlier, but, yeah, it was fun tracking daily vert like that, but it died an early death.  The Sunnto Vector then gave pleasure for years (used eaqually for vert/thermal gain in hangliding - although we have better instruments for that..), but couldn't keep a battery in it after a while..  Never used the gps for the vert feature (they were(/are?) weak in that regard).  Then one day, I just couldn't give a damn about 'keeping track' of that stuff.         Kool if you do, ...it just don't suit my jib anymore.

apologize for the memory lane scenario and minor drift..
