I think there is a great danger in trying to codify trip reports and how they should be presented and laid out. It stifles creativity.
Everybody has their own idea as to how to present them and people have different views and preferences.
Via la differance!
Many people want everything laid out on a plate for them.....personally if a TR has piqued my interest but I need more information I will do the work and research necessary to find out where it is and how to get there...at the last resort I may even contact the poster and ask them direct.
Research and figuring shit out is part of the fun.
This thread makes me sad! :'(
Since you have entered the discusion, it was your Shames TR that got me to start this thread. While reading the TR, which was a good read and great photos by the way, I did not have a clue where this was. I quick search did reveal that it is in BC, but it would have been very simple to put the location in the title or in the body of the TR? I'm not trying to twist anybodies arm, and I wasn't trying to make a big deal out of this either, I just thought it would add to the TR if it was clearer in regard to the location.
Once again, I'll state, I'm not looking for a detailed step by step guide book type read, Just a general statement about the location. I simply read these TR's for the enjoyment and knowing what location inspired the TR adds to the read, IMO. And most are done very good.

I suspected that and if you had checked the lift skiing section where I had already wrote two previous reports and explained where Shames was and made reference to it's proximity to Terrace, you would have know. To repeat it in the BC Tr page I felt was redundant although I understand that many of the BC purists on TAY could never hold their noses long enough to delve into the Lift Skiing section so perhaps I should have repeated the information for the purists.

I posted in the Lift section first because we had primarily used the lifts to ski sidecountry those two days and alhough we had toured a lot...over 50% of the vertical...I was worried that if I posted those two days in the BC section....some fool would point out that we didn't "earn all our turns". I posted the third day in the BC section because although we used the t-bar twice.....over 80% of the vertical that day was earned and therefore I felt inclusion in the BC page was within acceptable TAY limits although I was rather hoping somebody would point out the fact that even that day we used lifts for access so I could then argue with them.
However, back to your original question.....no I don't agree with you and think you are being lazy or the very least admitting that you can't google worth a toss. Just my 2 cents

Aggregating a whole season into a worldwide pinboard would be a fun fall project too!
A searched a bit and mostly found mobile APIs but I'm sure if hillmap.com could be created from scratch by a member there has to be the resources out there. Speaking of hillmap having a static link in the submit page could promote usage of that more-detailed tool as well.

Lets see........oh yes..... STOKE!
People post for many reasons .
E-gloating
To give Avy information
To share with others
To boast
To claim a first descent.
Etc,etc.
....
.....It should be left to the author to decide.
Scotsman, I concur. Even though I agree with the OP reality is people are going to post the way they want. Stands to reason if one is not going to include location or be elusive about it then stoke, e-gloating and boasting seem to be acceptable and appropriate on the forum... and why not, this isn't a guide book forum. Maybe I'll rethink my own etiquette and post my secrete stashes for the stoke and fun of it
in the end it is useful to the reader if authors at least reveal the region... just a helpful request, if not ok fine.
