OK, maybe I misunderstood the issue at hand. It isn't that the TR is too vague with the author attempting to hide some secret stash info, but that the TR detail is too local and not helpful for an unfamiliar reader to understand where it is in the greater region?
That is what I would think. I have been put off by some local names, not knowing where it was in general, spending some time looking it up via Google, etc. but really just want to know the general location/more specific location and if there are remarks on avy hazard, the kind of info that relates to that (altitude, aspect). I don't expect anyone to post an exact location or directions. I'm looking more for snow conditions and just vicarious enjoyment of the poster's trip.

that's more what I mean. If I know the general region or area I can find out the details on my own if I really wanted to learn more. Its frustrating when a report peaks my interest but can't find it or even the region on a map. Reading about other places outside my home turf is half the fun of a forum like this......but that the TR detail is too local and not helpful for an unfamiliar reader to understand where it is in the greater region?
exactly, said it better than I....That is what I would think. I'm not real inclined to break up the TRs into regions, partly because I don't think there's enough use outside the site's typical "core" (though that seems to be expanding).
Mostly, though, I like to have it all mixed in, because it's fun to read a TR of a first-time skier's trip up Kendall Stump (Snoqualmie

Marcus I think that's spot on . This site appeals to a very broad spectrum of skiers scattered over a wide geographical area. XC tourers ,Meadow skippers , Yo yo ers ,powder hounds ,Lift skiers and Ski mountaineers. A lot of us exist in all mediums. I'd say most of us yearn to ski outside our normal areas or personal boundrys. Having it all mixed up is stimulating.

OK, I certainly can do that. Looking back at my last post I can see how that might be hard to find. Here's a shot at an amendment:

This is more typical of a direction I'll give when I think it is little known:

I have added that Cle Elum is 85 miles east of Sattle on I-90.
On this one I added to the approach details. Kendall west slope is very common knowledge and/or obvious on the map. Some of the skiing is vague on purpose. Our sense of discovery was gigantic when we first found these north facing lines years ago. It was a few years until we finally skied them--I was intimidated for a while. Sometimes finding it on your own means more than being directed right in. just my opinion.

I am not saying that I was the target of the discussion by any means, just looking to see how best to balance getting worthwhile info out there and at times maybe allow for a bit of discovery. Most of where I know to try and go I learned from TopoFusion mapping and summer hiking. Often someone else gets to it ahead of me and posts it with good details. It is fun to see how others go about finding places. Later I usually find out folks have been going there for about a hundred years....
