any other recent reports on Freedom? does it need mods?

pros? cons (aside from 'still heavy')?

success with the release? that is my real motivator - otherwise that Italiano 'kickthevik' binding has appeal.
getting close to taking the plunge.

I've used mine 5-10 times but have a pretty good feel for them.

Pros:
-The low weight is a noticeable improvement vs. the Freeride
-Touring ROM is much improved over the Freeride, although to me dynafit feels more efficient with easier kick turns in powder (probably TTS too).
-They don’t seem to have less power than the Freeride, but I’m a medium weight guy with low tension springs: ymmv.

Cons:
-Balling is improved over the Freeride, but snow still sticks under moving parts
-Putting them on in powder can be frustrating. There’s probably a trick to it but my best advice is switch modes without removing skis if possible.
-On rare occasions I’ve popped into tour mode when going downhill. I started being OCD about pushing the touring lever as far down as it’ll go, and haven’t had an incident since.

No success or failures of the release so far :)

I've had the same experience.  So has another buddy who uses these.

Other con over TTS is I sometimes catch the brake when ripping skins.

If I used these only for touring I would remove the brake, but for lift access tele they are so convenient.

One of the best features of the Freedom is that is puts the heel of the boot lower than the toe, this is a huge improvement over any tele binding IMO. Haven't had problems with popping into tour mode now that I rap on the lever every time I get into the binding. Silicon spray is your friend when it comes to snow balling.
Ultimately I would like a TTS style binding with an NTN second heel attachment combined with a tech toe, can some genius design this please?

That's an interesting comment, would you mind ellaborating on why you think so? I ask because I've two friends who don't like that and are contemplating adding a shim under the heel. Going to be mounting my freedoms in the next week...woot!

Been using mine since December, probably about 30 days on them so far and I have no real complaints. I'm coming from hammerheads, so I don't have any basis to compare them with the freeride model. I really like the way they ski. I can't really put my finger on it, but I like the "resistance pattern" (if that's a thing...) better than when I was on hammerheads.

I've had the same "spontaneous tour mode" issues happen twice, both while skiing in bounds. Nothing disastrous, but it did give me a nice surprise and some pucker. I think heavier snow can get packed in there and work its way under the lever, causing it to pop up after a long time. To make this isn't happening, I've been poking the lever with my pole every now and again just to make sure it's locked and haven't had a problem with this since I started doing that.

Addressing the release, yup, it works! I have mine set at 2.5-3 with blue tubes and a pretty hard fall will knock them off (which is right where I want it to be). Haven't had any pre-releases or failures to release. This is a big plus imo over non-NTN bindings and one of the reasons I switched.

Go for 'em.
