Many of know that Kam and Kelvin have both been making the own skis for years. I meet them both, along with Kam’s now wife Allison and Kelvin’s wife, Elli, all first as students and later as instructors at the annual
Mountie’s Glacier Travel - Crevasse Rescue course
for skier/boarders.
The idea of custom boards came up more than once over the years and it has always intrigued to me. Almost took Kelvin up on the invitation long ago, but it just didn’t seem right then.
After Kam and Ally’s new baby girl, Norie, came along, Ally decided to quit working out of the home for a while in order to spend more time with Norie. That’s when she informed Kam she wanted something more to do at home. That was how Ski Lab was born.
Then not long ago it felt right to get involved in a custom ski. Interestingly, when the topic of me having Ski Lab do a set of boards for me came up, Ally had all already figured out the name for the skis
.
And it has been lots of fun working with Kam and Ally to help dream, plan and design the skis. They will basically be my “go to” pow-pow boards for knocking around Rainier and Paradise in the freshies.
And like I said, I’m Jazzed; I’ll looking for a lot more fun as Norie,
Ally
and Kam
start the final chapter of these skis,
the actual construction and finishing.
Kam has a whole page on the skis and their specs here .
I really have to so they are quite sexy looking; I am really proud of Kam and Ally's design work to date. It will likely break my heart when they get their first scratch… but I’ll endure
.
I’ll keep you posted as things progress…
And I will be looking forward to giving you a the report on the first turns.

Thanks, Chris,
Just so you know, I plan to mount Dynafit rental heel pieces on them, which will allow for greater boot size change differences.
Assuming we can get them hooked on, I'll likely over one a test run if we're in the area... especially if that stropping boy of you 'ern was to break out a nice skin track.
