Hmmmmm? So it looks to me to be an 8 hour LSNA climb with stops for lunch, siesta and snacks. Desirably do-able!!

And in human terms, Andrew, that's what I meant. Our measurements are not far enough off of each other's to change Wooley's goal if he applies a fitness routine and mental gymnastics, as we all should with whatever we dream.
BTW I could use some anti-inflammatories, and a nap.

Yeah, teaching college I could really do some damage. All statistics are variable when the human element is added. Otherwise there'd be no sociology!Just thank god he only teaches high school sociology!

Last time i did it i think it took 4-4.5 hours. if you are like me you'll have no problems till the last 1000 feet or so then its a pain. least that seemed to be my thing. iI was great till then! As a reference my mom did it last year with a group of other lady's (all 50+) and it took them like 7-8 hours. They had no real training or anything other than some shorter "practice" hikes and they did have heavier packs (were training for mt. adams)

As a 64-year old, overweight, highly-active bc enthusiast with osteoarthrities & degenerative disc disease (111bc ski days this season; strenuous mountain biking, road biking, and hikes this week) anti-inflammatories are mandatory (according to my physician), napping optional--usually on those days I don't get enough exerclse. But aspirin, tylenol, and NSAIDS all have some long-term negative effects. So my personal solutiion (YMMV) includes (1) elaborate stretching, exercise, and tai chi regime every morning; (2) Hammer Nutrition tissue rejuvenators on a higher dose regimen--they include the best documented types of glucosamine and chondroitin (which are anti-inflammatories), MSM, and 5 different herbal anti-flammatories each addressing a different pathway (my pharmacist advisors also recommended this to me as somewhat of an antidote to the use of NSAIDS and they have proven effective in reducing the frequency of my use of NSAIDS and tylenol); (3) pursuing a thoughtful rehydration regime: not enough fluid intake increases joint inflammation, too much has other negative effects; also electrolyte and ATP management (I use HN Endurolytes and Mitos). Of course, the other approaches necessary include proper footbeds, skinning motions (your technique can minimize to maximize stress on knees), and use of poles (and their effects on wrists, elbows, and shoulders).
More than you expected, I expect. DISCLAIMER: I am a consumer of Hammer Nutrition products and as a scientist with post-graduate training in physiology, anatomy, and nutrition, I find their documentation to be very good and informative (and I have run some of their reports thru review by professional nutritionists). I have NO FINANCIAL or other ties to HN other than being a consumer.

...and I have no financial interest in Wooley getting to Muir, but I still want him to go for it.

Do you like rain? I live in NB (love, love, love it here), but it rains. A lot. I'd say all the time, but occasionally the golden orb makes an appearance, just to keep me from claiming a 100% rain track record.
But, then again, having instantaneous access (literally, in my backyard) to the beautiful Cascades is a pretty darn good tradeoff. Who needs sun anyway?

Then it's looking like a move to North Bend or Cle Elum.
