Ski Trab skins? was created by telemack
I just picked up some 171 Duo Freerandos, the ones with the double-shovel tip and the deeply notched tail. Ski Trab sells some skins to fit, but reviews of the attachment system are so-so.
A wide tip loop holds over the shovel but I'm wondering how to attach to the little swallowtail.
Any recommendations?

I used Trab tip and tail attachments with BD skins for several years and they work fairly well if you get the length perfect. The swivel mechanism to release the tip fix is not the most convenient on the market, tho.
If I were to do it again, I think I would rivet some hooks on the tails (maybe ground down picture hanging hooks from Home Depot) and use shock cord and a washer or similar hook for the tip.

I used the Traub skin tip fittings and a rat tail/bungee system that morphed into 6 mm perlon cord before routing around the slot in the tails to the bungee attach post, all affixed to blank skins from climbingskinsdirect.com.
Let me know if you're interested in the concept and I'll shoot and post some pics.

That would be great; don't knock yourself out. Sounds like getting a standard skin and making up a tail kit of my own is the simplest and most reliable way to go.Let me know if you're interested in the concept and I'll shoot and post some pics.

Mack - As I said, I used the Traub skin tip fittings, which attach to the skin with rivets that come with the tips (just a hammer is all that’s needed)
but also added a two inch wide strip of poly sheeting on the glue side near the tip in order to make it easier to strip skins without removing skis
I taper cut the skin tails down to ¾” and sewed a piece of ¾” webbing to the skin and also around 6 mm perlon cord
Now a real true “rat tail” system
the cording goes through and over the slot to the top of the ski where it is looped around bungee cord
The bungee knots are enclosed in the drilled out tops of Bianca bottles which make the bungees easier to grab with gloves on to unhook from the retainer posts
The retainer posts are made up of a small brass screw, a 3/16 in spacer and a larger smooth finish washer
This is about the most trouble free system I have come up with so far and I think I have tried just about all of them. I’m pretty lazy with my steep uphill kick turns so I’m pretty addicted to jamming the tail of my uphill ski under the middle of my downhill ski when reversing direction. These skis with this tail attach system really work well for that maneuver.

Thanks for that Ron, I have those same skis with a poorly re-cut pair of old skins and your system looks great.
Out of curiosity what do you all think of these skis? I haven't skied them enough to really tell, but I wonder if they are actually too light for a lot of winter/early spring conditions? I imagine they're actually fine in corn conditions (haven't had 'em out in corn yet). I do wish they made a larger size.
