A couple new observations from Mt. Baker today. The gouge marks in the Rumble Gully avalanche path are like walls up to 12' deep, similar to the Mt. Hood avalanche.
The ski area folks reporting to NWAC today reported hearing a loud roar from the slopes of Mt. Hermann. The avalanche was not visible due to snowfall.

Umm -- that thread and those photos are from 2009 . . . still scary, but not so relevant for current conditions.

Lots of locals were out on the arm in the am doing figure eights with the lifts in the morning. Then pan dome opened up and the arm cleared out for awhile. It is amazing that no one was caught in this one. Lots of folks in Glacier feeling like they dodged a bullet with this one. So many could have been caught. Duncan Howat is telling folks that it is the biggest avy pile he has seen in 40 years of running the area.
