Here's the latest,
Due to the road not being open today, our operations crew could not get up the the Ridge to prepare the ski area opening tomorrow. Opening the road tomorrow is also uncertain due to predicted high winds and snow overnight.

If the ski area is open on Sunday, they will be here that day and possibly Monday. We are trying to reschedule the BarN9ne event for Sunday evening.

I will post an update tomorrow evening ...................

Gary

Glen and Kimberly Plake are kicking off their 2011 "PNW Down Home Tour" at Hurricane Ridge this coming weekend (March 5 & 6). Each year the Plakes take a road trip in their motorhome to small ski areas in different parts of the country.

They will be at the ski area on Saturday, hanging with the crowd on the hill, passing out swag and signing autographs.

Saturday evening they will be at BarN9ne, a local watering hole. The address is 229 W. 1st Street, Port Angeles. We will show some old ski movies and the Plakes will socialize with the crowd. This will go from about 5 to 9 PM. There will be live music after 9.

Sunday we will tour with them in the Olympic BC.

As always this is conditioned by "The Hurricane Ridge road will be open daily, weather and snow conditions permitting".   ::)

I am talking with the Park about updating the "hotline" earlier each day this weekend so people know the plan (360-565-3131)

Following is a press release regarding the weekend.

GLEN PLAKE TO SKI HURRICANE RIDGE
Ski legend Glen Plake will ski at Hurricane Ridge this weekend, March 5 and 6 as the first stop on his 2011 Down Home Tour. The Down Home Tour is an authentic skiing event for Plake to connect and ski with locals at their home mountain, and to thank fans who have supported him as a professional skier over the years.
Plake is an iconic figure in the skiing world, starting with the original extreme skiing movie “Blizzard of Ahhs,” many Warren Miller features, and continuing with “Steep!” released in 2009.  He won two world “Hot Dog” championships, and is recognized world wide for his signature Mohawk hairstyle.
“I spent years looking at the Olympic Mountains from K2 headquarters on Vashon Island,” Plake said.  “I always wanted to ski them, so I can’t wait to get there.”
The tentative event schedule is to ski Saturday in the ski area.  The public- especially the young and young at heart- are encouraged to join Plake on the mountain.   Saturday evening BarN9ne, 229 W. 1st Street, will host a meet and greet session showing archival film you won’t see anywhere else from 5 to 9 pm.  All ages are welcome.  After 9 Jason Mogi and Paul Green will play.  On Sunday Plake will spend time in the Hurricane Ridge backcountry.

This sounds like a very fun, even inspiring time.  I wonder which day I should go.
Saturday to hang out, maybe buy a lift ticket, then hit the BarN9ne? Or Sunday to actually tour and share some turns with the guy?
Anyone thinking of going up?  I'd be more likely to do the drive with a car buddy.

Duuuuuude, would you rather say "was at a bar where Glenn Plake was", or "I skied with Glenn Plake"?

No brainer!

Eat yer Wheaties, though. I hear he's a stud on the up too.

Yes he is, I skied with Glen before and he is a hoot. We had a common friend in Chamonix where he used to rent a room from. Great enthusiastic guy and his wife is great too.
