i cannot believe this. so very sorry to hear the news.

Our heartfelt condolences to her family and friends. Although we have not met her, the outpouring of love in this thread is a statement to the impact she has had on the mountain community.

Even for those of us who did not know her personally, Monika was an inspiration for her adventurous spirit. So sorry to hear this, and condolences to family and friends. She left too soon, but packed more life into her years than most can dream of.

she loved breaking trail.... she'd break trail and still lap me while yo-yoing a slope... 

first time she went surfing with me, she had a hand-me-down leaky wetsuit and the weather was 45 degrees and raining, she still stayed in the water as long as everyone else and had a blast. 

I've only had the chance to ski with Monika once, but have appreciated the subsequent emails to ski, climb... even an enthusiastic invite to surf... ask advice on contesting a speeding ticket... or cheer me on in my own pursuits... What an amazing inspiration not just through her accomplishments, but also in her intentional encouragement.

Wherever you are Monika, I hope your stamina and fortitude pull you through.
