I thougjt it was pretty fun today up until the freezing rain started to make a crust. I have some new to me super fat reverse sidecut skis that I am really loving. Seems to help a lot.

What kind of crust are we talking about here? As bad as the crust a couple weeks ago?

SL jumps to 5k late and stays that way – much higher, actually – for days, so unless you're planning to go up tonight (why?), I'm not sure any discussion of the 1 p.m. crust really tells you much, particularly with the very quickly-changing conditions.

What are you riding alpentalcorey?

More importantly, any reports from the field on actual snow conditions at either pass?  Powder, freezing rain, crust, rain, elevations affected etc?

freezing rain started about 1030 at alpental. blowing hard and cold. temps went from 14> 30 in like an hour and a half. (casual observation)

thought it'd be a better day based on the depth of snow when i rolled out of my subaru this morning. snow up past the bumper and tires...

Yeah this crust should be a total afterthought after the rain does its thing for a few days. Not at all like that crust from before.

I'm on some Praxis Powderboards. Reverse sidecut, 136 in the waist, totally different than anything i've been on and i'm really becoming a convert.
