Agree with what everyone else has said.

The Tatoosh and Slot both seem to attract a lot of attention, and hence trip reports, but are entirely different types of tours.

The Tatoosh typically would be a more mellow learning experience, though there is some challenging terrain there; Snoqualmie Mt. (at least from the front/Phantom side) pretty much demands a fairly high level of both skinning and skiing skills (plus, if you're beat after skiing the Slot you are still a valley away from your car). Neither is going to land you a wilderness experience these days, even if you can swing a weekday.

There are plenty of places along the I-90, US 2 and Rainier areas where you can still get away from people, but you will need to look beyond the popular trip reports.

"don't know where to go but want to persuade other people to come with me anyway."

Reminds me of how I started out. I'm guessing this is true of many of us. I suppose some folks had the good fortune of being pulled in by an experienced crew before starting out, or joined a club that helped them get their legs under them. But many of us had to bootstrap a bit...

Me too.

But I wish someone had cautioned me more against it at the time. Or at least pointed out possible alternatives or maybe just the risks of my enthusiasm.

But you knew that I meant that.

I'm guessing he didn't.  You have a history of dropping one-liner snark into threads without a lot of explanation.  Perhaps if you offered that explanation from the start, it would be easier to discern the difference.

all though i understand the reality of your statement. I don't feel personally targeted or flamed. I hope that wasn't your intention.

looking back at my post- all i was asking for was a private message about why i shouldn't parade these folks up to the slot or what dangers there might be on a route i am personally unfamiliar with.

all the input that was posted here and the many kind messages i recieved via PM were quite the help in presenting the route choices to my ski partners (along with your sound reasonings-again, thank you)

I would prefer for this thread to not be dismissed by folks like PNW as 'bootstrappin beginner shit'. quite frankly- there are many resources available to the novice tourer and many organazations that will take folks out on trips as a group but many end up on this site for information. I lurked for a year before deciding to interact with you and have had many positive experiences with meeting some of you in parking lots and trailheads.

I don't like to, or think it's neccessary for me to post a TR for every trip that i go on for you to read. for one, it might be the most boring thing in the world for you to read another TR on the southwest chutes of adams the same week that 4 other people post one up. I've largely toured popular areas the past two seasons on my splitboard with the most 'remote' being the boulder glacier on baker or the ingrahm glacier on rainier. I enjoy the climbing facet of splitboarding and my recent ski partners have yet to experience that. being the middle of winter and short on daylight I thought I'd look into some different areas for a change. For you to assume that 'i don't know where to go and want to persuade other people to come with me anyway' is negative vibes. i'm simply looking for beta and want this thread to remain positive.

if you don't want to share information about routes, stashes and general observations about safety related to my inquiry-don't share- it's your choice. this ain't a 'i'm higher and mightier than you' input session. if you want to make safety observations regarding partners taking each other out into areas they don't know- i invite you to start your own thread and not hijack mine. this may be incredibly useful to someone in the future. unless that's not what TAY is for.......

P.S. voile has sold more splitkits since october than ever before as a company. people are interested. safe to say that you will run into questions like this more and more often.
