As you have so aptly discerned, there are a lot of kind, experienced and giving folks that post on this board, giving back to the sport that they love; and also just a very small number that seem to gain pleasure in their attempts at the clever belittlement of the “less worthy rank and file”.
The latter element also seems to contribute little to the self improving, positive journey that most of seem to be on, partially because of their “taking away, rather than adding”. I see them at some point, moving on to environments that better suite their temperaments.
In the mean time just ignore them and work with those that are of the same positive attitude as you have demonstrated.
I appreciate you post and your input.

genius remark scotsman. made my monday morning sitting alone in an office.
interesting news about the park at crystal. now we can witness pant sagging, tall tee wannabe gangsters wearing arc'teryx and north face rather than hanes and columbia. i'm all for 40 foot booters. i'm just laughing at what might/will be "the scene" at crystal.
heres to the new ganjala.
Cornride and RonJ before you two get to sanctimonious about each others goodness and positive attitudes you should at least reflect on yourselves for a while.
I'm certainly not defending PNWbrit's response in the above thread but one of the problems with people who like to pontificate about their goodness and positive attitudes on the internet and the lack of the same in others are usually hypocrites. The record of CORNrides posts if you care to check, show a healthy appreciation for sarcasm and the clever bon mot as well as some preconceived ideas about the worthiness of others involved in our sport, especially users of the park at Crystal it seems if the post copied above is any evidence.
No problem, we are all susceptible to bouts of negativism, sarcasm and putting others down , just as we are of kindness, uplifting opthers and helping. It's very dangerous to judge people on what they write on the internet alone and especially on TAY as many of the " trouble makers" turn out to be some of the nicest, helpful and honest people in real life whereas some that closely guard their internet persona and like to create the image of constant purity of thought are usually conceited, sanctimonious bigots in real life.
The concept of TAY being like the new Oprah channel, constantly positive, helpful and containing nothing but self-improvement content is certainly vomit inducing as far as I am concerned and the most common complaint I hear from others we have chosen to either frequent the site sparingly or not at all. Skiing is fun or should be and the dedication that most of us( I'm guilty) show to the sport is fairly ludicrous when you consider the world at large and therefore deserves the lampooning that many of us give to it's customs, prejudices and participants some of the time.
My hope is that you RonJ will take time to reflect upon your hypocrisy( Some of the most funny, sarcastic, bigoted, racist, misogynistic and un pc comments I have ever heard in real life have come from your lips when you are not pretending to be a TAY saint) and that you will finally relinquish your moderator status as we need some new blood and someone without the prejudices you have developed over your too long tenure.

P.S. voile has sold more splitkits since october than ever before as a company. people are interested. safe to say that you will run into questions like this more and more often.
i'm def seeing that out in the bc this year. seems like a catch 22. on one hand it helps the gear progress. on the other there are more folks jumping straight to the bc without (paying dues?) such as bootpacking sidecountry and clownshoeing shorter bc trips for several years before going "deeper".
no negative vibes intended here though. i wasn't hatched in the mtns so i can't claim any terrain (even though it still frosts my arse to see so many "splitters"). it was fun to be in the minority. i'm more surprised at the demographics of the people picking up splitboards. not who i thought they'd be.
see ya on the hill corn...

i'm in total agreement with you. at least the price tag on some factory splits kinda keeps people away. I mean if you want to drop a grand on a setup it'll probably motivate you to use/ learn about it. The danger is probably more for people picking up a used board that's built and 'blazing' off into the backcountry unprepared/ experienced.
i see you can rent splitboards now... which is both awesome and scary! it's kind of like seeing the mule train of rented REI gear on the DC in June...

cornRIDE, most of the people that attempt Rainier with the guide service on the DC are not experienced mountaineers but people trying to either gain experience or gain the uplifting experience of attempting what for them is a considerable life changing challenge so the fact they have rented gear is not surprising and in most cases an intelligent decision. Many I have no doubt post on their blogs and face book pages how uplifting and inspirational their journey of self discovery was.it's kind of like seeing the mule train of rented REI gear on the DC in June...
You may consider them the less worthy rank and file and compare them to mules but I for one find your negativism and sarcasm abhorrent and your snarky one liner somewhat surprising. I'm sure RonJ will agree with me.
