We were out ski touring in MRNP a couple days ago and a plane went overhead of us so close I could see it's bolts. Fortunately it was brief, I do not like to be buzzed (in more ways than one) while I am ski touring. One time we were on the edge of MRNP and a sightseeing plane decided it was cool to keep checking out us skiers near a ridge. I think that they mistook me giving them the finger for waving at them.
There was an article in the Seattle Times about increasing air traffic in MRNP, including helicopters as part of a policy for increasing visitors, but I find that even the park research helicopters are really annoying when I'm out looking for peace.
I'm curious and I guess I did not see the current rules for private air traffic in MRNP on this thread. Like numbers of private planes allowed in the airspace above the park and height restrictions.

I spent a week last summer hiking from Stevens Pass down to Snoqualmie through the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. Twice a day, almost every day, Military jets would come screaming over the ridges. The noise was truly amazing, nerve jarring, and really frustrating, although it only lasted a couple of minutes each time.

Of course, a troop of Boy Scouts doesn't tip toe through the wilderness, either... ;)

I am certainly no Glenn Beck or Rush Limbaugh and I actually will rejoice when both of them kick the proverbial bucket..... ;) Unlike those two, I do value the natural environment ....but I hardly think that puts me in the same league with those two ass hats..... ::)

Nice touch... I agree with the first half of your first statement.  Glenn is right.

I'd say the takaway lesson here is that when the goal is to share some nice footage or photos and express love of the mountains, describing buzzing wilderness terrain at low altitude and then using terms like "nazi" or "kook" is likely to interfere with the intended message. You get to do one or the other--sharing the love or naming the kooks--but trying to do both at the same time tends to get problematic.

Hope this perspective is helpful, somewhere down the line.

Mark
