The wire rope mfg are supposed to pre tension the cable. The hydralic tensioners should take up the slack. Either the wire rope company screwed up or the engineers calcs were off. Either way it's down time and not good. Where was the wire rope mfg'ed? The Philippines, China or Switzerland? That will tell the whole story.

(AP Wiretap) InterMountainNews: Crystal Mountain Washington State. It has now been confirmed. The world record of "wire rope" stretching has been achieved. The (no name) lift is now in the record book!

I'm curious how many of you guys are engineers and how many Gondola's you have installed?

I can always count on some great entertainment from you guys!   ;D

Even more entertaining is the circus act by the people who HAVE installed gondolas before!
I know that these guys are busting their asses to get the job completed.
I have heard rumblings from pass holders that they are only getting 1/4 season use for a full price purchase, but I could care less unless it drags on.

In the long run this is a great investment for the mountain. I hope it runs like a champ when it finally gets up and going. I also hope that there are long lines to ride it so it pulls the pressure off the other lifts. At nearly a minute interval per 8 person load the line should stack up pretty long.

This is text from the Gondola website!!
The new Mt. Rainer Gondola will open in December and remain open for sightseeing during the Spring and Summer too!

The website is designed to keep you informed about the schedule, latest news along with photos and videos of the construction.

The Grand Opening celebration is slated for Friday, December 10th, 2010.

I guess they are too busy picking up shards of fiberglass in Green Valley and doing some very serious head scratching...to update this website. ( A car is rumored to have fallen off the cable and fell into Green Valley.)
As I said in the other Gondola thread. My impression is that the Gondola is NOT for skiers, it is more of a TAX shelter and insurance claim, they make money off it even if it doesn't work. Notice that it will be running in the summer.
Ironically, it is designed in Switzerland, (correction here, AUSTRIA not Switzerland) manufactured in China and can be found in the children's plastic toys section at Canadian Wal-Mart. The irony is that OUT OF WORK Boeing and K2 Ski engineers will be riding it!
Why in the world can't Americans (successfully) engineer, build and install this "Gondola Rig" OURSELVES, on OUR OWN public land?
