Climb stairs...lots and lots of stairs. They have moving stairs in most gyms, but you can find free ones almost anywhere.

The Alpine Training Center in Boulder, are doing a 8-12 week dry land training cycle, and they post their workouts. Good stuff.

Planks:
hold for 2 minutes --3 times per day
side planks
These will strengthen core and buttocks. Hold for 1-1/2 minutes--3 times a day
Last year I went to PT and my therapist was also a certified ski instructor. He taught me these and it made a huge difference for me, especially going through crud.
I started on October 1 because I l know we're going to have an early season!

I've started too. I get out the door, usually with two dogs, and walk.
I have access to some hills.
Some of the time I carry a pack.
Usually that pack has some barbell plates in it.
Sport specificity + regular training =
Let it snow
