Don't let the cc requirements get you down. Even a tandem ride up the road to the Esmeralda TH is worth while. Don't try to tow that length if you expect your touring partner to do any trail breaking!

Everything Toby says is true.  My friends and I have ski toured extensively around the south side of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness via sled access for the past 5 winters, and I can confirm that sled encroachment in the wilderness is incredibly rare.  I can also say from experience that there is never a shortage of fresh turns, even outside of the wilderness areas.  Sleds can go a lot of places, but skis go everywhere!  And we skiers get almost all of the north faces to ourselves (the wilderness border is on the EW ridge that cuts through the entire zone).  Couldn't have designed a better playground for ski tourers IMO.   Here are a few pics of our favorite ski areas, to fuel that pre-winter stoke:

Hey G2G,
Nice shot of Long's Pass
We sled ski in this area a bit, as well. Maybe We have ran into you a few years back? It seems odd to me that We dont see more sled skiers out getting the goods here in Wash. In Whistler and that general area they are a dime for every dozen.

Hey Shred - Other than Toby I've never seen or heard of any other ski tourers in the Teanaway or Salmon la Sac valleys (during winter, that is), which is really weird, given that it's such an obvious spot with incredibly easy access. That said, have you ever sled skied out of the Methow? The locals have it figured out there, and who could blame them?

I am still hoping to buy a sled this year or at least borrow my buddies M8. If it works out I will be reaching out to look for people to tour with.
