Toby and G2G, your experience using sleds to access ski terrain mirrors mine. I have never had a hard time finding fresh tracks. I have seen fresh tracks and evidence of sled use in the ALW and other closed areas though.

Aaron, I'm sure you have observed violations if you have skied there often. I haven't skied in this area much, and I have not seen evidence. I have observed violations in the Baker area Wilderness, as well as into Garibaldi Provincial Park. It happens all over, but not all the time. I got into a heated conflict once near Garibaldi over a boundary violation. Not a pretty sight in a such a beautiful area. But, I did it to preserve the privilege/right to access these areas ...Anywho, lets not u turn this into another WMC thread. That wasn't my intention.
PS- G2G, nice pics! Such a tease!

My S O and I know a handful of people up here who do this but for the most part are generally just doing it together in our own local "back yard" with another friend that we have broken in on sled handling/wrangling. It would be fun to hook up with some others on here and expand our horizons a bit.

Well I'm glad to hear that ALW boundaries don't get overly poached -- I'm going to start scanning craigslist more seriously for a used machine and trailer. (and probably a larger tow vehicle, since my mine is currently only a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder)
Any reccommendations for a sled capable of carrying two people (total weight = 400lbs) up to Longs pass ?

Unfortunately, that sled doesn't exist. Sledding is actually a skill sport, believe it or not. And, getting to Long's is fairly advanced. I would highly recommend you get 2 sleds if you plan to regularly bring a friend. Another option is to tow in, which works for the main access roads (but not untracked snow or technical terrain), but it's really slow and hard on the sled. Feel free to PM me if you want specific advice on gear or techniques, or if you want to get out on your new sled once the snow flies.

What G2G says. Sledding requires skill! And will scare the s**t out of you trying to learn!! 800 cc's is the minimum for tandem, standing, riding (one person on each foot rail), which is the most efficient. Towing REQUIRES 800cc's on any uphill in fresh snow. 500-600 cc's is OK for towing roads and small inclines. 144" track is minimum for hillclimbing. Do it Randy! Oh, and my buddy tows a sled behind his Subaru Outback with a single place trailer.
