We're past that Juan. This is serious and we need to start concentrating on the issue not the individuals. I'd be happy to have you join the cause if you want to.

One of the reasons that the NPS is even *remotely* considering opening a dialogue on TAY is because of the tone of the site.

Them picking the who or the tone of how they'll discuss this issue with maybe isn't something to be encouraged?

It's only a matter of time before the NPS has collected enough data to make their case.

Maybe I'm missing something but how does documentation of simply the numbers of people hiking the King prove that people doing so is a detriment to the park?  It be great to see them held to the same standard as Boyne and other ski area operators and require them to produce an environmental impact study that actually proves that people using THEIR national parks is as problematic as they seem to be implying.

Here's mine: I think we need to form a commitee/ group whatever you want to call it . This group needs to diplomatic type as its spokesman. The group needs to meet with Boyne and the NPS, start engaging them in a conversation about the issue and try and find a solution that keeps access open! Our apathy will allow the inevitable to happen unless we start engaging them.
Anybody want to step up to the plate and help me get this formalized and organized??

I think this is an excellent approach and would love to contribute in whatever way i can.

Quick tangent:  Anyone know if Ranger Monica Morin is related to patroller Chris?

Feel free to engage them however you see fit, but the discussion will be very brief if it's a pile-on from the start, I expect.

That area is designated as pristine wilderness. That designation includes the number of visits per given period that are "allowed" if they decide to claim that skiers are breaching that arbitrary figure they will shut the boundary or attempt to do so.

Darth Uber tried to do so during the Xtal masterplan disagreement because he "felt" that damage was being caused to the park by lift skiers. Monica is now collecting the data to enable him to beat us. Unless you hold these wankers to the fire they will take everything they can get. It happens when you put people in uniforms.

The census is just another small part of the process and by no means a huge impetus to do something when taken on its own but its a reminder the the NPS continues to study the issue and collect data. It's another straw on the camel's back.
They have been counting ski visits for the last couple of years.
They have been documenting every broken branch, every candy wrapper blow in from Crystal and documenting them as being caused by skiers visiting the park from the Crystal boundary.
On soapbox.
As BC skiers we are an apathetic bunch when compared to climbers who have always been more proactive regarding access issues and even federal fixed anchor bans. Their experience suggests that waiting until a decision is made and then hoping to defeat it once again in a lawsuit is not the best way forward.
OFF soapbox.
