@ Joe - I think I found your nose clip in the SB at the weekend. Must have been quite the powder8 digger you took?

frankly as a backcountry skier I would n't want to be anywhere near a figure 8 contest. Not even to watch Joe crash and burn. Well maybe ? But I sure can appreciate that skill. I guess i woulda skied bullion basin trees or bear gap . Skiseattle welcome to this most civil forum.

. Skiseattle welcome to this most civil forum.

I wonder if skiseattle is a new poster or just an existing poster logging in to preserve their anonymity while posting some controversial views that they suspected might get some flak. If new, hello and welcome , if the latter........ grow some balls( or ovaries to be gender neutral) ;D

The gist of the matter in my opinion, is that the "Crystal Backcountry" in Silver Basin and Avalanche Basin is not actually backcountry, but a hike to controlled area within their FS permit boundary and they can close it for almost whatever reasons they wish. Closing it for a powder 8 contest is no different than closing a regular ski run for a slalom race.

There was a avalanche that happened the day before off the SE side of the King into Silver that left a 6 foot crown and the debris went all the way to the flats in the basin another slide that went off lookers left of Boxcar.

Is that the booze talkin' or did such a slide really occur? I was just back there yesterday, and didn't see anything... Although this was a couple of weeks ago, I'd think Noah's Arc would be visible after a slide of that magnitude! Maybe they swept it up for the 8's... ;)
