Backcountry at Crystal - Ski Patrol Authority

Joe, what is the Powder 8's?  I've never heard much about it.

A contest where two skiers synchronize ski, a lead skier and a tail gunner.
The objective is to make perfect 8's down a fall line while skiing as synchronized as possible.
Better scoring for synchronization, faster speed and round 8's. Extra bonus for throwing in stuff like chute skiing, tree skiing, jumps, but all have to be synchronized.

Not really sure I see the irony you're talking about, but the main complaint in that thread was that a few snowmobilers deliberately trashed the groomed track that had been laid by the race organizers, not because there wasn't enough campfire singing.

I don't see that behaviour as much different from deliberately touring up through a pow8 course (within a ski area's avy controlled and patrolled terrain!)after being requested not to do so.

Certainly as anti social and equally designed to lead to confrontation. The sense of entitlement in both instances is remarkably similar.
