White Pass expansion? was created by OldHouseMan
20 years ago I spent my high school years skiing at White Pass. The view of Hogsback Mt always beckoned me, but, at the time, I had no idea that BC country skiing even existed and no way of getting out there.
Fast forward about 10 years, I get bitten by the BC skiing bug, and I now can ski those slopes that beckoned me 20 years ago, but now White Pass has started the expansion that I had always heard rumors of. Is this the end of BC skiing on the Hogsback? I came across This on the White Pass web site, looks like they are well on their way.
How will these lifts affect BC skiing south of White Pass?

the two lifts chair 5 and chair 6 will bring the resort skiers very close to two major bowls and thus increase use in those areas, the north face of Hogback proper will be available for resort skiers, but to reach the bowl will take about ten minutes of up hiking. The southern rim of the long cordillera will then become easier to reach and instead of taking two hours as it does presently, will be approachable in half the time, which is most likely where all the hard core bc skiers will be driven in an effort to get away from the crowds at the resort and expeience the remaining nature of the area.

Any talk of the new price of a one way ride ?
Back country gate ?
seems like there will be some new issues for the ski area to deal with.
Will lifts 5 and 6 run midweek? If so maybe a soon to be retiree like myself might think about a season pass.

WP just put their season pass on sale for next year, only $379. Still a very good price, especially considering the expansion. I plan to visit White many times next sesaon!

Seeing as they've ruined the main attraction for skiing at White Pass, they should be charging less.

I have been a pass holder at WP for the past decade. It is a mixed feeling I have. I have spent almost every weekend in the BC there to get away sometimes for the day other times for just a couple hours. It is sad to realize that Hogback will be a mogul field next season. And unfortunately you can only go a little ways further out and you come to and end of the long ridge. So, the 3rd bowl out is it. I suspect that the huckers, and draggers, and gappers will be out there too. I just hope I can get there first !
The real threat I have seen already this year with everyone and their brother going out to Hogback to "check it out" is the potential danger they are so COMPLETELY unaware of. So far this season 1 in 5 I have stopped (uninitentionally, and reluctantly) to speak with does not have a beacon (or any other avy gear). I spoke with the "head" ski patrol at WP and he said they are going to bomb the sh*& out of everything out there. I can't even imagine how many people they are going to have to drag out of the Clear Lake valley !! Oh well. I still love WP !! P.S. Hi Robie !
