Looks like I'll need to try and make it up there before the lifts start running next year.

Anybody up for showing me around?

A friend and I should be up there Sunday, We'll prolly head out there if the weather is nice.

The new expansion terrain barely qualifies as blue.  We've skied it several times on the way back out from hogback.  If you go lookin around, and ride down skiers left side in the new area you'll get caught in a dead end hole (where the chair loading will be), and have to climb out, so keep that in mind.  While the expansion area is not very interesting there is a bit of glade action available, but it will ski out fairly quickly on any given day.

The first bowl will no doubt see a lot of use by hiking inbounders, as a doable traverse will put riders back into the area.  The Gunsight bowl and beyond is a different story and will require a boot back out.

Whether patrol can or will manage the snow there or not, regular skier compaction near the area will probably enhance safety there, but will give a false sense of security for lines just beyond.  I will be curious to know what attempts will be made to manage skier/rider visits beyond the rope.  Signage is just for the lawyers - but that's ok.

Bummer, my wifes birthday is Sunday, probably one of the only weekends I don't ski in the winter/spring.

That is the part as a resort skier and backcountry skier that I think is  lame.  The Hogsback is getting taken away as a good touring spot, yet the terrain that is doubling the size of the ski area seems incredibly uninspired.  Maybe it will help with the crowds on the quad on busy days.

True, the new terrain will be boring to most and the new boundary creates a host of issues regarding access, avy hazard and rescue for the White Pass Company. We might as well give them the Miriam Creek drainage and let them stick a lift in there. After all, there is a precedent for delisting wilderness for a ski area.

One other thing I would do is minimum grooming until the new area got skied out. Save diesel and powder. Just a few return tracks to the base of the new lifts and back to bottom of birds. And I would sell it as such. Ala Powder Mountain Utah ...
