I'm Not sure if they can bomb the wilderness side ? If I were running the show I'd have access gates.
NO beacon ,no shovel, no probe, no climb out method, no partner =no go .
Baker has a policy like that I believe.

One other thing I would do is minimum grooming until the new area got skied out. Save diesel and powder. Just a few return tracks to the base of the new lifts and back to bottom of birds. And I would sell it as such. Ala Powder Mountain Utah

MY big question
will those new lifts run midweek ?

They are for sure going to run them in the week. And Honestly I'm not too worried about too many noobies going back there because you still have to hike back out, and if they get into the first couple of bowls, then I'll just keep going out further :)

I took some pictures of the expansion Aerial and ground in the same weekend, Check them out here if you'd like to see some detail about it.

Damn - I guess I shoulda gotten down there in at least one of the past 15 years to check the old scene out. If I'm understanding the terrain correctly from this thread, it sounds like perhaps the bowls around the Musical Bumps at Whistlter before that new chair went in recently might be a good indicator of what to expect, except that I'm guessing White Pass won't see quite the same level of crowd?

As for the "hard core bc skiers" mentioned above I'm thinking that this expansion isn't impacting them at all... ;)

IMHO White Pass is doing what it can to increase skier visits. Is the expansion a good thing? if your an inbounds resort skier - yes.. if you like to tour that area clearly no. the new lifts are the kiss of death to some of the best local back county tours.

Looks like I'll need to try and make it up there before the lifts start running next year.

Anybody up for showing me around?

If they really wanted to increase usage at White Pass they would keep Cayuse open in the winter like they used to do in the long ago. That would open up some great country in MRNP (of course that is probably why they never will).
