I think his frustration with probing had to do with the super compacted surface. I had the same problem there a month or so ago where it was like trying to probe through a granite counter top. I guess that just means people are using it!

Proper probing techniques should get you a positive strike.

Lots of use and the type of snow conditions this winter has given us...
I've been trying to dig the sensors up every other week or so to keep the surface a little softer than granite.

Thanks for all the input.
I think the best bet is to retire the F1 for practice. I reread the reviews of beacons in Backcountry Magazine. They are very high on The Barryvox Pulse although that comes with a high price tag. I also like the idea of the new Tracker 2 because my friends that have Trackers think they are very simple and easy to use. I'll probably see if I can find any deals in the next few days.

The snow was certainly more amenable to probing today. Thanks Stimbuck. Of course the steady drizzle seemed to help soften things too.
Also, I love my Barryvox Pulse. Its very intuitive and has sped up my pinpointing vs. my older M2. Its also made it much easier to acquire a signal and hone in on the closest one in the initial search, especially in multiple burial scenarios. Well worth the $$ IMO.
