Greetings Fellow Skiers!
Yesterday I received a call from the Mountaineers, Books that they will soon have, deus ex machina, 320 copies of "100 Classic Backcountry ski...etc" in their warehouse. Apparantly small-print runs are now technically feasible. My contact stated that the price will be $21.95 and the book will be available at all their traditional outlets. This will be not be a new edition; simply another printing. At this time I do not have any plans to bring a new edition into being. If there is anyone out there contemplating doing a project like this, I'd be happy to provide any assistance. Regards, Rainer

I paid $5.00 for this , old schoolin'....

I finally found the image I was thinking of. Compare the photo to one of my dad, who ran the Austin tow in the forties, and would be a natural local to ski with the Springs.

That's an awesome photo, Tim. I'll definitely buy your hey-thats-my-dad theory, the stances are like they are from 2 frames apart of the same video.
Another interesting thing in Tim's photo - look at where the tree line is on Goat Peak in the background (least I'm 95% sure that is what we are looking at). There is now scrub trees and crap at least 500 feet further up that slope, not nearly as much white now.

At the Paradise parking lot in August 1999, some totally random skier I just started chatting with gave me a photocopy of the entire original book.
I've started scanning it into pdf files.
If Rainer approves (although technically I suppose the copyright is not his to control?), I can start posting the files at yousendit.com for distribution.
(Note that Snoqualmie is 13 megs; Rainier & South is 20 megs.)

I'm pretty sure that any one who authored content of any sort would be upset if someone scanned it and put it on the net.

I don't know the copyright ramifications, but, respectfully, I think that you should delete your post.
