Yeah, I was wondering about that, too..

[Edited to add] I posted before reading Blitz' comment (despite the auto-warning on the page - oops). Still not sure what he meant, though

My guess is failed irony. Since Amar is the man, and the story he lived to recount is a proud display of what to do right after a couple of humanly imperfect decisions.
On a better attempt at irony, I have always suspected that Amar prefers salty water due to the electrolites needed to project one's self uphill really fast.

Didnt he hike up rainier, get stuck in a vent over night, call for a rescue helo that got up there but couldnt land. Then he skied down the next day.

He IS a prime example of a superhuman with a cell phone.

Amar had explained his situation but never asked for a heli. If I was in a survival situation he would be the one person I would be glad to have on my side.

Far from a yuppie attempt if you ask me.

As for spot, I wouldn't mind getting one for the simple reason that my whereabouts could be tracked.

Telemon, I find it extremely ironic that Canadians still defend their "our beer is better beer" fallacy. Prohibition is over!!! Seriously though, the only good IPA that I have found in Canada so far is from Tree Brewing in Kelowna. Let me know of another one and I'll give it a taste.

I apologize for the thread drift, but most Canadians will defend the generalization that our beer is better than what is produced in the USA, just as we would assert that we are better at hockey. Seriously, you have to look at what constitutes 90% of each country's beer production and compare that. I would question the belief that Anheuser-Busch products are less "watery" than Labatts'. As for Canadian craft breweries, here are several that brew IPAs that I like that you might want to check out:
Nelson Brewing-Paddywhack IPA
Philips Brewing-Black Toque India Dark Ale and Amnesiac Double IPA
Howe Sound Brewing-Devil's Elbow IPA
Cheers!

Both American and Canadian beer are but pale imitations of Eurpoean beer! We invented it or was it the Chinese???? Need to look up on the interwbez as to who invented beer BUT I know it wasn't Canadians! ;)
