Salal,
Can you explain your 2nd picture. How far do you have to bushwack to get to the beach?
You guys look like you have carts ?
Also is this area suitable for beginners?

ain't talkin for Salal, here, but it is a 3+ mile walk in... an interesting way to up the adventure is to kayak in from the north. unless it's pounding, you can land at or above the north end of the beach ~ and, you don't have to carry the beer. also, heard it told a guy might be able to pick up a taxi at Makah.. don't really know, though ~ and besides, that would kinda be cheatin..

how does the swell at ShiShi compare to Westport? I've been out at Hobucks before when the swell is fairly small (4-5ft) and the outer rocks/islands really knock the wave size down to almost unsurfable small except during the final hours of an incoming tide.... while Westport, though not nearly as scenic, will generally have something rideable even on the smallest days.

Anyways...never made it out to ShiShi but would like to go this summer...just curious whether conditions there often are smaller than the noaa forecast (ie- Hobucks). thanks!

We carted a bunch of stuff down the "road" to the headland above the beach. We were out there for a celebration of sorts so we hauled two big coolers and two small pony kegs of "root beer"...hence the cart in the 2nd picture. No wheels allowed in the np itself I understand. There are waves at shi-shi....it helps to spend a couple days there to catch the right tide/wind/swell direction...even a couple rock type reefs in the area. Not as consistent as westport but well worth carrying the fiberglass out there.

Surfed Hobuck this weekend and it was good!  Locals told us the rivermouth had hit 8 ft waves a day before. Right at mid-incoming tide was probably the best.  Nothing huge, just some 4-5ft waves, but they were well worth it!  We had the beach to ourselves for 2 hours before people started to trickle down, but nothing like the crowds (or localism) at Westport. We found a lot of other places along the coast too, and supposedly The Dump had been really good too. For the extra hour of travel you get less crowds and more waves...I don't think I'll be in Westport again for a while, that is unless the Groyens is going off! 8)
